"She crawled out of my TV."

In case you missed it — I am playing the role of Verla Wolfson in the new comedy web series "Headless" from Shipwrecked Comedy! We filmed back in February in LA, and the first five episodes are out now. They air weekly, with the finale coming out on Halloween (as befits a spooky story such as this!)

Watch the show here!

Headless is inspired by the legend of Sleepy Hollow! Episodes are under 20 minutes, so it should be easy to catch up on the episodes that are out so far if you haven't watched them.

I'm gonna get real with you: The team behind Shipwrecked Comedy are very, very good at their jobs. Sean and Sinead have written some of the funniest independent web content I've ever seen, and the entire team of four are talented actors whose characters just jump off the screen. They spent a quarter of a million dollars on this series, all money that was hard-won with fundraising, and none of the core team are taking any of that money for themselves, because they need every single scrap to produce this show to the quality level they want. It is genuinely crushing to watch it debuting to middling views when I KNOW it deserves better.

So... how can you help?

If you haven't watched yet — watch! Please!

You might not think it'll be your jam, but you can't know until you try it. You might not feel like you have time, but even watching the first few minutes can help the YouTube algorithm distribute it more widely. And if it isn't your jam, you might know someone whose jam you think it WILL be. Send it to them!

I'm not saying "put it on loop in the background all day" (YouTube DOES have mechanics to detect views that aren't from real watchers) but clicking on the episode and letting it play through IS algorithmically helpful. Obviously it's best if you, a human, watch it and enjoy it! 😜

If you have watched it — like, comment, and share!

I know it can be hard to think of something to write in a comment, but internet algorithms aren't reading your comments. One of the easiest ways to help is just to type a few words on EVERY episode. It doesn't have to be poetry or anything! Even just saying "Love this show!" or quoting your favorite line helps this show reach new people.

If you share it on your Twitter or Facebook and even ONE person watches, you have made a difference!

If you've done all this — do it again!

The curse of a series is that in MOST cases, there are declining views as the series stretches on. A lot of the "we've got to make sure this independent project succeeds!!" energy bleeds out over time. People who are gung-ho about sharing at the beginning may lose energy for it later, or feel like they've done their part. That means that sharing it and promoting it now is more important than ever. The first episode has 65,000 views... yesterday's hasn't even hit 10,000. This is a GREAT time to renew your support.

If you want to go hard, here are a few miscellaneous ideas:

Playing Verla in this show was an absolute joy. Every single cast member worked so hard on this and gave their all to this project. The script is ridiculously funny, and while they easily could've coasted on that alone and created a good show, Sean and Sinead also managed to create a truly creative and engaging plot with some seriously mindblowing twists in store. This show is GREAT! It just needs our help for the world at large to realize that.

Thank you for supporting independent creators who are working their asses off to build something fun, thoughtful, and joyful. 🖤

Comments

Even if you've seen it, you should rewatch it with the subtitles on! There's a lot of hilarious sound effect descriptions.

Honestly, I'm still chuckling at "Icky got ticky?" (For anyone who doesn't get the joke, you'll have to go watch the series. I think that line is in episode 3.)

Jonathan Blanton

Loved the first episode! I shared it on reddit as well. Hope it helps.

Steven Gatlin

This has been so funny. I wasn't sure how I'd like it, but I've laughed out loud multiple times per episode!

Peter G

I love this show and I want more of this show. Plus THERE'S A VERLA POSTER IN THEIR MERCH STORE.

Dottie Carter

My wife and i have been enjoying it, but we grew up maybe 20 miles from the real sleepy hollow.-where's the hudson river?- and if anyone showed up on my parade ground with boots like the' e-reneactor' i'd be heard bawling him out a zip code away.

Only one problem with the show: I've now watched it all. How do we get more? I will write a check (or the 21st century equivalent). Oh! They have a Patreon! Meanwhile, I shall watch more Shipwrecked shows.

Fletcher Williams

I won't need to set it on auto loop. I'm just going to keep watching this. There has been a laugh out loud moment in each episode so far.

It's SO FREAKING GOOD!!!

It was such a good set to be working on and knowing how hard everyone worked on it and seeing it all come to fruition in the final form is so wonderful! Verla's got some great one-liners and everyone so clearly understood their character from the get-go it's hard not to love all of them!

This show is fantastic. It's silly and spooky, and not scary at all (for folks who don't like horror). Definitely recommend.

I have plans tomorrow after work, on Thursday I'll watch them again from the beginning, I really enjoy them I really like the humor. And I'll remember to comment on each episode. I ran through and liked all of them. I could probably watch them, given how short they are at work, if watching them again but not looping them, is helpful I could do that. I can probably pay attention to most of it, and I have watched them all before. But I don't want to do stuff that hurts them. And if I am to give the episodes my full attention it will have to wait until Thursday and not be during work.
