PDF: Undertow's Character Sheet

At first I wasn't sure how I wanted to present Undertow here, since I had already used images of this character for the "feral merfolk" monster stat block created for last summer's Patron-exclusive adventure, The Cold & Hungry Sea (password: dilightful). But while the feral merfolk were meant to be animalistic monsters, I've always seen Undertow specifically as an intelligent villain. The obvious answer was to make her the leader of the feral merfolk β and, as you'll read in the PDF, basically their creator. If you want to use feral merfolk in a game that has otherwise friendly merfolk, I think Undertow is a great way to explain them!
This character sheet includes:
- Undertow's backstory and personality
- Suggestions for how to include Undertow in your game
- A CR 5 stat block with original actions
- Suggestions for how to level Undertow up or down to suit your table
- The full Feral Merfolk stat block, for use as minions
The Undertow stat block was created by Joe Nuzzo! As always, let me know if you spot any errors, because I can update this with edits.

2023-01-03 23:19:38 +0000 UTCPicking my favourite song on the Songs To Drown Sailors To album is like asking me to choose my favourite flavour of skittle. Sure, I enjoy red and purple the most and yellow the least but if you give me a bowl of yellow skittles only I will be, while confused, grateful and instantly ravenous. All this being said, my favourite song IS Undertow and I'm so psyched that we have a stat block for her now because when (not if) my players encounter her I will be playing it on repeat in the background. I will also be keeping my ears out for a karaoke version, and I'd pay money if I knew someone who could mix the karaoke version to have wispy, far-off sounding lyrics just fade in and out sometimes so over the course of several playthroughs you do eventually hear a majority of the song but not for a single playthrough. I guess what I'm saying is I'm excited for this pdf :D
