Iceberg Effect - Part 7

Everything at work had been going her way recently and it felt like Clarissa couldn’t lose right now. All her pitches in meetings were home runs, and all the coworkers on her floor adored her. Her older coworker, Margaret, was always doting on her like she was her own daughter, which is actually where today's muffin had come from. Margaret was always bringing in treats to share with Clarissa, she was just that loveable around the office.
It wasn’t just Margaret that was enchanted with her though, everyone seemed to be rooting for Clarissa as she pushed to further her corporate career. Donald, the office clown, was one of those people as well. “Psst! Clarissa!” Donald using a brash hushed tone got the young brunettes attention. “Come here.” He called her over to an unused corner of the office. Putting the remainder of her muffin down, she brushed off any crumbs that had gathered on her taut skirt, flattening out and creases from it riding up in the process. Clarissa’s thighs, tightly packed in the probably too small skirt, rubbed as she made her way over to Donald's corner.
Clarissa, confused by the secretive meeting, asked, “What’s going on Donald?”
Donald had a big smile on his face. “I just overheard the hiring committee for the manager position. They said they were going to offer you the job. Isn’t that great!”
Clarissa was full of excitement, but realized Donald was telling her this in confidence, so she couldn’t show her glee that much. “Oh Donald, that is great! Thank you so much for telling me!”
“Well you’re everyone in the office's number one choice, so everyone is going to be so happy for you. Don’t think you can get out of a celebration party planned by Heather either!” Donald teased. “Let me know when they finally make you the offer, I’m taking you out to lunch!”
“Thank you, thank you.” Clarissa said with her heart full of happiness, knowing she deserved this promotion, since she was the best fit for it. She couldn’t wait to share the news with everyone once it was final. Heather, the party planner in the office, would surely use this as an opportunity to celebrate. Clarissa expected it to be the biggest party they’d ever had, as this was the best news she’d seen since starting. It wasn’t just anyone's birthday, or a bittersweet going away party, this was a real reason to celebrate.
“Hey I didn’t have one of Margaret's muffins this morning, feel free to take an extra from the breakroom on me. Never too early to get on the good side of the new boss, right?” Clarissa’s face lit up almost as much as when she heard the news of the promotion. With a smile on her face the bee lined it for the breakroom to grab an extra muffin before some else got any funny ideas. Returning to her desk she now had a large new muffin, and the remainder of her first one. She gleefully munched on them until they were both gone, which didn’t take long.
