Upcoming Campaign: City Dwarves

Coming up soon we've got a campaign that I've been calling "City Dwarves". Below you'll find the pitch for the campaign idea, but between now and then some details are sure to be added, removed, or changed, so think of this as a starting position. There's also a 20% chance that something blows up in the next month and the campaign fails before it even starts. The length of this campaign isn't going to be super long, but there's no set length. There are other things this group wants to do as well, and when those get ready, we'll wind the campaign down. 10-20 sessions?

Our potential cast members currently are, Anna Prosser, Genevieve 'Livinpink' , and Rachel 'Seltzer'.

Without further ado, let me introduce you to the campaign the way I pitched it to the players.

City Dwarves

Our PCs are a group of dwarves with a trading post / finished goods store / some sort of legitimate business in a city... but that's just the day job. By night (metaphorically) our PCs are also into all the other ways you can make money in a city. Smuggling, burglary, greasing the wheels of government (bribery/intimidation/whatever you need), making life hard for your legitimate competitors...

Our campaign starts with just the 3 players (or 4? details are still forthcoming) who are barely making ends meet with their regular business when one day they discover that it has been broken into and things have been moved / replaced / are missing.

Rather than one long questline, we'd have the overarching story of the City Dwarf Trade Post (replace with the business name), with 1-4 session sub stories. Examples:

* A rival cobbler shop has hired a new craftsman that is hot with the nobility and is drawing away all the PC's best customers. Find a way to get them to come over to our side, or drive them out of town.

* When going to a fancy house to do a fitting, one of the PCs spies the location of a secret panel where a safe is being kept. Its treasures could be ours if we break in.

* After selling the treasures cheap to an unscrupulous fellow (still making a handsome profit for one night's work), they offer the PCs a job to smuggle a box out of the city - but don't look in the box or you might burn this bridge and make an enemy.

* A new tax law is being discussed in the guild hall that calls for a 10% taxes on finished leather goods... this will cut into the PC's profits. They can decide to take the hit to your legitimate business, or find a way to encourage an exemption be made for shoes - after all, everybody needs shoes, even the poor. (assuming the PC's are cobblers)

* When on their way to a meeting with their fence, the PC's notice another group leaving the fence - obviously some unscrupulous thieves in the city. They're probably up to no good and have some liquidity laying around. It'd be a shame if something happened to those folks, and it's not like the could go to the cops. Maybe the PC's decide to find out where they work from and take it. Maybe they find the PC's in return and hit their business.

Every time we level up, each player gets to bring in a new dwarf to the legitimate business, and from time to time someone might join the illegitimate business.

Specifically Dwarven PCs because I've got some dwarf stories I wanna tell, some perspectives to try out, and I'd love to see some dwarves outside their typical "I work in a mine or make weapons and armor" tropes.

I love this idea!

James 'McTacky' Gilray

they're so great. I'm really happy to still be playing with them, and Rachel / Seltzer is S class as well. Really brings the whole group together.

I 'missed' this cast from misscliks so it sounds like fun to me!
