✨SHURE SM7B & 3Dio✨ [Which Do You Prefer?] [Keep Using Both?] [Or Have a Staple?]
Added 2021-02-22 20:19:13 +0000 UTCHey Teacups -
So, I just wanted to quickly get your thoughts on our two microphones.
I used the Shure SM7B on two audios this week "You Need Some Kindness" and "Ass Vs Titties", whereas the 3Dio was used for the "Ear Exam" audio, and is our current staple. The Shure microphone is a mono microphone commonly used for vocals, VoiceOver, etc, whereas the 3Dio is a stereo mic primarily used for ASMR.
Both have their merits, but I was just wondering if you guys had an ovewhelming prefence when it comes to our content?
So, do you prefer one, like both, or just wanna eat some pizza?
Please let me know.
Thank you for all your wonderful help and I look forward to reading your comments.
Best wishes,
Tea

Seems like a no brainer, but 3Dio for binaural centric content, and the SM7B for normal RP audios maybe. I personally really enjoy the stereo sounds in your previous audios - while yours were usually not as noticeable as in some other content creators' works, I did enjoy the illusion of having Tea moving around me and whispering in my ears. Ultimately it comes down to you, and what you are comfortable with. Stick with the Shure maybe if you are having trouble recording with the 3Dio - though IMO if used correctly your works would probably benefit from the stereo sounds of the 3Dio, considering a lot of your recordings are supposed to be immersive personal experiences to be experienced, rather than recorded readings of stories.

2021-02-23 20:11:39 +0000 UTCI'm a long time fan of the Shure microphones, but I come at that from a music background. They tend to last and the unidirectional mics are great for S/N ratios.

2021-02-23 18:52:41 +0000 UTCI would say using the Shure SM7B as a staple, solely on the basis that most of the audios you put out are roleplays where going from ear to ear is not common. For stuff like straight up ASMR like the Ear Exam the 3Dio is best, but I don't think the difference is super noticeable. In conclusion, for the type of content you usually put out the Shure SM7B seems like the best choice.

2021-02-23 16:11:02 +0000 UTCWell I look at it this way you have both they both have different areas that they excell in why not use both?
2021-02-23 09:47:17 +0000 UTCI personally like both, the Shure for the vocals and the 3Dio for the ASMR. If you're able to keep both around, that'd be awesome!
2021-02-23 06:46:04 +0000 UTCI'd say the shure is pretty cool

2021-02-23 06:16:48 +0000 UTCPersonally I prefer the Shure, but that’s largely because I prefer your role play audios. I totally get wanting to branch out and do 3Dio style ASMR audio and I enjoy them too, but I’ve got a bias

2021-02-23 01:39:15 +0000 UTCI would say both but use whatever mic works best for the kind of audio you’ll be recording. If it’s something where ASMR is not quite the aim, then use the Shure. And if there are basic effects of 3Dio you think the Shure can handle then go with the Shure and make editing less of a hassle as much as possible. And if a spine tingling reaction is what you aim in the audio than definitely go for the 3Dio. Either way, your audios always come out fantastic!

2021-02-23 00:29:20 +0000 UTCI think keeping the 3dio as backup or for just special audios that you want stereo on would be a good idea.

2021-02-22 23:58:38 +0000 UTCI'm of of those that's alllll for binaural audio--especially with close whispers and trigger sounds. Mono audio doesn't give me the tingles at all.

2021-02-22 23:18:37 +0000 UTCI don't notice any difference in sound quality with the Shure microphone. I prefer having binaural audio, even when it's not ASMR. The sound of you moving around, even if just slightly, when I am wearing headphones, brings your voice to life. 🎤🎤

2021-02-22 23:10:25 +0000 UTCI really think both of those microphones have their uses if you plan to do both ASMR type audios and voice acting type audios then use them both you have the tools at your disposal

2021-02-22 22:47:01 +0000 UTCIf you want to do more ASMR in the future, I'd say keep/use both. but more for their own regions. the 3Dio for ASMR, the shure for any VA stuff and at the end of the day, go with what you're most comfortable with and makes your work the easiest. in other words, I'd like to have a slice of pizza, if there's any left ^^

2021-02-22 22:43:33 +0000 UTCI prefer 3D0 mic but the other one is fine.

2021-02-22 22:33:59 +0000 UTCI like both, but you bought the second microphone to work more comfortably, so use them two if it's easy for you or use only one, the important thing is that you feel comfortable working.

2021-02-22 22:15:05 +0000 UTCAfter ear exam and debating whether ass'n titties are the best, I've come to conclusion that pineapple pizza is good🍕 But I'd say use Shure for these audio stories that you breath life into. 3dio for close and personal audios like cuddling in sheets/ ear to ear ❤️

2021-02-22 22:13:47 +0000 UTCBoth have their applications. I get the frustration of dealing with mics when recording. I think both will gave a place in your recording Arsenal. I personally love both microphones and the sounds they gey but I get wanting to reduce frustrations when recording. I hope both microphones will aid you in your recording process. 🙃 Also pizza sounds good to me right now....
2021-02-22 22:08:30 +0000 UTCPersonally i like the 3Dio because of the tingles and for the effect that situations feels “real”. But both can be good depending on what recording it is🥰

2021-02-22 21:57:17 +0000 UTC3Dio is better for kisses, otherwise, both
2021-02-22 21:47:16 +0000 UTCHonestly maybe because of my hearing but I cant really tell the difference I still get tingles and I still get relaxed with your audios. But I am a pizza man so I voted for that.

2021-02-22 21:45:16 +0000 UTCGun to my head, if I HAD to pick one, the 3Dio. Honestly both are perfect depending on what ever it is you're recording. Best to just use both for whichever effect desired, unless that becomes a hassle setting them up. X Also, now, yes, I do in fact want pizza... damnit I am way too easily influenced.

2021-02-22 21:36:52 +0000 UTCI prefer the 3daudio for the more intimate feeling. There is just something about having your voice right next to my ear

2021-02-22 21:29:09 +0000 UTCI think both are fine since it can help make content that's either ASMR focused or more role play focused. However if I had to choose I would go with the Shure because I prefer the roleplay side of things. To me the ASMR aspect was kind of secondary to help sell the immersion big the roleplay.

2021-02-22 21:29:03 +0000 UTCI like the ASMR effect for pretty much every audio I listen to, so the 3Dio provides more of the effect I'm looking/listening for, but the Shure will absolutely work for audios that don't quite need that ASMRish, in person sound. So essentially they'll both work, switch between the two for whatever seems appropriate. Of the two, at least of my immediate first impressions, I'll say I'm favoring the 3Dio. Who knows, time might flip my opinion!
LPPrince
2021-02-22 21:27:16 +0000 UTCUse both where appropriate. If it's mostly story-driven, stick with the Shure, but I really do like the 3Dio for the intimate tingles.

2021-02-22 21:14:59 +0000 UTCUse both microphones😁👍🏻👌🏻

2021-02-22 21:05:45 +0000 UTCI haven't had time yet but you maded one mistake eat pizza an option. My personality is about 30% pizza. But on a less serious note I will give you my opinion of which one I liked better because you asked for it. I'll try to keep it short but no promises 🙂 off topic I can't wait to type up my opinion depending on how I feel I might go more in depth but for now I will focus on the task at hand.

2021-02-22 20:53:08 +0000 UTCI think its best to keep both and use them situationally. If you have a script that is more face to face, story-like talking, with no need for side to side talking then the SM7B. And the 3dio would be for a more "personal" and ear play style
Jam Elephant
2021-02-22 20:50:23 +0000 UTCI vote pizza! But seriously, maybe my ear is not refined enough, but i didn't notice an appreciable difference, so i would say whichever is easier for you to work with. As a listener, i liked how both sounded, so I am good with either.

2021-02-22 20:50:00 +0000 UTCFor pure roleplay stuff mono works, but for me ASMR needs a stereo component, somehow without that I don't get them there tingles. Considering I listen to a lot of your stuff because of the story, those are just as good not being stereo, especially if it simplifies recording on your end
Lukas Pierce
2021-02-22 20:47:41 +0000 UTCWell, to be consistent with what I said in a previous post, I do believe switching mics depending on the audio theme would be best - 3dio for ear attention/eargasms and stuff like that, and the Shure for the more "story-oriented" audios
Glonthein
2021-02-22 20:45:14 +0000 UTCUsually when I was listening to audio that did not have any ear play or very little ear play I would set my audio output to mono and change it back to stereo when there was ear play or the sense of direction felt like it was important to the audio experience. Important tidbit is that I really would only bother if I was using an audio as a sleepaid the 3dio always felt like the speaking character was rolling over me to get to the other side of the bed or was trying to talk through my pillow if I was sleeping on my side that night. Each mic has a good purpose but I think the 3dio is one that should be used more as a treat when you want to do ear play or if you would want the listener to focus on a direction or if you want to do clone/two speaker audio. Personally I think you should main the new mic and use the 3dio for a nice little treat. Edit I work at a pizza place so I eat pizza every effing day.
Exl Kaldra
2021-02-22 20:44:05 +0000 UTCBoth for sure. I think switching mics for the kind of effect you want for an audio is a good idea.
Jmann1892
2021-02-22 20:41:59 +0000 UTCBoth are awesome! Unless you try an asmr video with the shure? But I like both! ✌🏽
2021-02-22 20:36:16 +0000 UTCI listen to your audios when I'm going to sleep. I love sleeping on my side so its impossible for me to use both ears without it hurting shure is what I prefer.
Happypants
2021-02-22 20:35:31 +0000 UTCI beleive if it's just a roleplay audio in which you wanna tell a certain story the shure should be enough. For Asmr related audios like sleep aids, ear massage, etc. The 3 DIO would be the best bet as stereo audio I feel is more suited to asmr content. Ultimately whatever tou prefer is fine Tea.
2021-02-22 20:35:24 +0000 UTCPersonally, I love tingles so the 3DiO is my preference, but both can be good depending on the type of video you want to push out. Like if you were to do a more tingly like girlfriend whispering into your ears and it's tingly and you go like left and right ear and make it a more ASMR relax, laid back style, for sure. I would love that mix with voice acting. The voice over mic though I think is good for alot of more voice script leaning ones? Take like a Christmas video for example, laughing, hanging out, talking whatever. That'd be good. I'm sure you know all that though, so to clearly answer the question my style preference is the 3dio.
2021-02-22 20:33:47 +0000 UTCso, i love both, and if youre wanting to do binaural content, the 3dio is going to be king, so i rec keeping both handy. personally i have Rode mics and a 3dio, so i like the route youve gone with todays audios
Christopher Haist
2021-02-22 20:32:41 +0000 UTCI'll have a pepperoni pizza topped with olives and mushrooms! But seriously, I'll listen to your works be it made with the shure or 3dio. I say leave it to your preference, or which you find best for the content you're making at the time!

2021-02-22 20:32:02 +0000 UTCI think their both great but I personally like the 3dio better

2021-02-22 20:25:34 +0000 UTCFeels like it depends on the content being made. voice acting = shure Sound effects =3Dio Personally, I lean towards voice acting soooo........ ...... oh, and I always want pizza. That’s just a silly question.

2021-02-22 20:24:44 +0000 UTCUsing both for different kinds of audios would be pretty cool

2021-02-22 20:23:32 +0000 UTCPersonally I do prefer the 3Dio...but at the same time I can respect and understand your decision for the change and say that you do you but I myself wouldn't mind it if you used both

2021-02-22 20:23:29 +0000 UTCBoth have their merits and purpose.

2021-02-22 20:23:23 +0000 UTCI liked the shure for sure... (had to do it, sorry) but I think 3dio gives a bit more inmersion to the audio. I understand that it's a pain in the butt to record with it, so I'm willing to settle for the new mic :D
Gnot
2021-02-22 20:23:10 +0000 UTCBoth. Kinda depends on what the audio you're doing is. Some would pair better with the Shure and others with the 3dio.

2021-02-22 20:21:56 +0000 UTCI'm in it for the roleplay and story, so a better audio mic is my preference.
