Hmm honestly I like both but the idea that she starts out without it and then has to wear it after a heavy injury makes sense. The player can also use this as a way to build more relationship with her as no doubt losing half your eyesight would be extremely hard and demoralizing and being encouraging and supportive of both her and her abilities(maybe helping to train with her to compensate for the lost sight)can help thaw that frosty shell.
