How does the game actually work?

In a nutshell

The game has 3 Core modes:

1. Visual Novel (Talk to people, play games with them , challenge them).

2. Management hub - research new drone tech, organise your squadrons, develop new tactics.

3. RTS battle - send thousands of units in to battle the drone fleets from system to system. Harvest, infiltrate, research and liberate star systems.

Each Mode is connected, doing well in one, impacts the other.

Unveiling 'Drone Wars': A New Twist on Strategy and Narrative

'Drone Wars' introduces an innovative fusion of genres, coining the term VNRTS to describe its blend of Visual Novel elements with Real-Time Strategy gameplay. Set against the backdrop of an interstellar conflict, players find themselves abducted by the Sekarri, a race of anthropomorphic feline aliens locked in a struggle against a relentless drone fleet.

At its core, 'Drone Wars' is structured around a game loop that seamlessly transitions from narrative-driven segments to strategic management, and finally, to the intensity of RTS battles. Here's how the experience unfolds:

Visual Novel Sections: Storytelling with Consequences

The game divides its story-telling into two distinct Visual Novel formats. The first is a traditional narrative mode where players engage in conversations, make choices, and develop their character's storyline. The second incorporates competitive elements akin to unique boss battles or challenges, reminiscent of games like 'Undertale'. Choices made in these sections aren't merely for narrative flavor; they directly impact gameplay, providing various rewards that can aid in the management of your drone forces.

Management: The Hub of Progression

The repercussions of your choices in the Visual Novel segments become evident in the game's management phase. Here, players can leverage rewards such as reduced research times, allowing for quicker access to advanced drone technology. This phase is where strategy begins to take shape, with players:

- Researching new drone capabilities

- Managing squadron loadouts

- Equipping drones with new abilities

- Upgrading facilities like power plants and cyber hubs

RTS Battles: Testing Your Mettle

The culmination of your decisions and management skills is tested in the RTS segment. Battles play out in real-time, tasking players with deploying their carefully curated drone squadrons to liberate star systems from enemy control. Victory relies on the strategic acumen and the strength of the relationships and resources cultivated throughout the game.

A Dynamic Environment: Your Home in the Stars

'Drone Wars' adds a layer of immersion with a 'home' room concept — your personal quarters within the Sekarri spaceship. The game weaves a hybrid linear-open world experience, where players can traverse various rooms like the captain's bridge or research lab, interact with other characters, and be swept into impromptu battles or dialogue scenes.

In essence, 'Drone Wars' is not just about the fight; it's about the journey. The game rewards players who invest in both their strategic skills and their narrative choices, ensuring that every decision resonates throughout the entire game experience. With a unique structure that goes from Visual Novel to management, to RTS, 'Drone Wars' is set to offer a multifaceted experience that's as engaging in dialogue as it is in combat.

Comments

Thanks for your comments. I defo get how it seems that way but don't worry we are all good for alpha in June. Fortunately ive already completed the whole visual novel code including storyboarding to easily add new scenes, ive got the RTS harness code all done and built 5 starcraft c&c like games before. Management part i'm doing next and have done that before with my game lifted and conquest. The bulk of my work is design, consistency and cutting out dead weight.

Not gonna lie, that sounds hugely overambitious
