I'm definitely thinking that the Rarity/AJ competition makes it feel bad because turning a friendship into a competition inherently makes it less. All the motivations are in the wrong place now. It's about being "nice" instead of being "good." Something this episode does that I particularly enjoyed was the lamp salesman. There are a few characters that pop up with various disabilities, and I like how they're shown but nobody makes a big deal out of it. Nobody treats the pegasus with the wheelchair differently than anybody else. Having grown up with a disability that frequently made me feel like I stood out, it's something I'd like to see more of in media.

2023-04-18 23:29:15 +0000 UTCI guess the reason why the competition between Applejack and Rarity feels so weird is, because friendship is something that shouldn't have a "mensurable value". So kinda like saying "My friendship is worth more than your friendship. So I am the more important person in this friendship". It gives me the same feeling as when someone does something nice just so they can brag about how nice and they are.
