After three shots, someone shouted, "Come out! Come out!"
John froze, his hand releasing the taco and clutching his chest, but Arthur knew John's gun was hanging on his left side, ready to be drawn with a hand inside his shirt.
John was about to act, but the drug dealers inside hadn't opened the tunnel yet, so the middleman hadn't been caught. It would be suicidal to draw a gun now.
Outside, the drug dealers heard the gunshots and almost immediately rushed into the restaurant, the first two, and surely more behind them.
Arthur felt that if there were already gunshots, it would be unreasonable not to run now.
So they had to run. It had to be in line with the rich experience Americans had in dealing with gunfire to be normal, to be reasonable.
So Arthur suddenly lowered his head, in a panic, and exclaimed, "John, gunfire, run!"
Arthur stood up, bent over, and sprinted forward. He didn't forget to grab the stunned John and urgently said, "Are you deaf? Gunfire! Run!"
The two drug dealers behind Arthur showed expressions that confirmed this. Yes, this was the normal reaction of tourists encountering a shooting, this was right, this was reasonable.
John did want to draw his gun and shoot, but Arthur grabbed his right hand and pressed against his chest, pulling John's body to one side and almost causing him to fall, making it impossible for him to shoot.
John was extremely astonished, but he was neither stupid nor slow. Although he was extremely puzzled and scornful of Arthur's actions, with four or five drug dealers already rushing into the restaurant, he could only follow Arthur and start running outside.
The two of them rushed out of the restaurant, and John subconsciously wanted to run towards the hotel, but Arthur grabbed him again, saying urgently, "Wrong way, this way!"
"You're the one going the wrong way, not only are you a coward, but you're also directionally challenged!"
"Shut up, do you understand the situation of being caught in a crossfire?"
Some of the drug dealers outside rushed over, but some stayed in place. They seemed to know the situation of the middleman and didn't need too many people to go in, so they stayed outside waiting, while also firmly blocking any possible escape route for the middleman.
Some drug dealers looked at the panicked Arthur and John, but no one stopped them. At this time, someone walked out of the restaurant and shouted, "Found him, bring the hydraulic pliers and blowtorch, there's some in the repair shop, hurry!"
Arthur heard the shouts of the drug dealers, while John approached him and whispered angrily, "Are you crazy? You coward, now..."
"Shut up!"
Arthur viciously interrupted John, then as they ran, he said, "You don't understand what they're saying! Shut up and listen to me, the middleman is still in the tunnel, we won't have a chance to kill him if we stay there. Use your brain, think about it, there's fighting behind and dining in front, even a fool would see the problem, if the middleman isn't dead, we'll be the ones dead first!"
Everyone had to admit that Arthur made sense. John could only look frustrated and say, "Then we'll have to wait for them to bring the middleman out to act."
Arthur whispered, "There are at least thirty of them, I don't want to die."
"Coward!"
"Shut up! Idiot! I have a plan!"
The two argued hastily as they ran for about fifty meters. At this point, Arthur slowed down, urgently telling John, "Come here, come here."
Arthur dodged behind a utility pole, took a deep breath, and then said to John urgently, "Give me your phone, quickly, hurry up!"
John took out his phone, but angrily said, "Get lost! I can make the call myself."
Arthur snatched John's phone, then said to him, "I have a plan, do you?"
John's fist was in front of Arthur's face, but with Arthur's question, the fist finally stopped. He looked at Arthur with confusion and asked, "What's your plan?"
"Shut up!"
Arthur swiped on John's phone, then handed it back to him impatiently, "Unlock it, quickly."
John hesitated for a moment, then pressed his fingerprint. Arthur took back the phone, thought for a moment, and quickly dialed 911.
Yes, the emergency, fire, and ambulance number in Mexico is also 911.
"What are you doing? Are you calling the police? Are you crazy?"
John tried to grab the phone again, but Arthur stepped back and angrily said, "Shut up! Don't be a nuisance!"
After scolding John, the call connected, and a mechanical female voice said, "This is the 911 emergency center."
Arthur raised his voice and, in his somewhat unfamiliar Spanish, at the fastest speed of his life, said, "I'm being robbed, I'm being robbed!"
"Where are you?"
Arthur paused for a moment, then continued urgently, "I'm at... I'm at a restaurant south of Aikovario Hotel, what's it called, it's a taco restaurant! I've been robbed, please come quickly!"
His voice was urgent and panicked, but John couldn't understand. He was anxious, scratching his head and ears, afraid that the drug dealers would notice Arthur's actions and be attracted over, so John was anxious.
Then Arthur suddenly raised his voice and, in English, very panicked, said, "I've been robbed of $560,000! Cash!"
After reporting a sum in fluent English, Arthur switched back to stuttering Spanish and continued, "I've been robbed of over $500,000, all in cash, in a brown bag, that's the money I just won at the Puevlo casino, you have to help me get it back, listen, I'm a US citizen, you have to help me retrieve the money."
Arthur rambled on, and John paced around in frustration. He wanted to say something, but seeing Arthur glare at him, he could only raise his hands and make a gesture of speechlessness towards the sky.
"Alright, sir, I've dispatched the nearest patrol officers. Are you injured? Is your current situation safe?"
"The bag I put the money in is a brown leather bag, very large, it looks like an ordinary travel bag on the outside, but it contains a huge sum of money..."
Arthur glanced at the restaurant. Someone had just entered the restaurant with hydraulic shears, and now someone was pushing a gas cylinder welder into the restaurant.
The middleman probably couldn't hold on for much longer, so Arthur stopped beating around the bush, stopped describing what the bag looked like, and immediately said, "I'm not injured, the robbers have run away, there were two of them, one with a gun. They took my wallet and my bag. Listen, my wallet isn't important, what's important is my bag of money. Please come quickly!"
"Alright sir, our patrol officers are already on their way. Please find a safe place to hide and wait for the police to arrive."
"Okay, I'm already hiding."
At this point, John suddenly pointed towards the restaurant. Arthur looked over and could only see a figure being pushed into a car at the restaurant entrance by two people.
Arthur immediately said, "I saw the robbers' license plate number, it's T6-BAE, a white Ford sedan, they drove... uh, north."
The operator must have been speechless. She said helplessly, "You should have said that earlier instead of describing your bag. Please find a safe place to hide and wait. Our patrol officers are very close to your location, they're on their way."
"Okay, that's it."
This time Arthur was very quick, he hung up the phone with a click.
John asked anxiously, "What did you say? Did you give them the license plate number? Could you see it?"
Arthur whispered, "I memorized the license plate number."
"You remembered all the drug dealers' license plate numbers? Can you remember them all?"
"I don't have that good of a memory, but there are only two cars at the restaurant entrance, I can remember two cars, right? They put the middleman in that white car, isn't that enough?"
The car started and drove north. Arthur breathed a sigh of relief and handed the phone to John, saying, "Call Captain, quickly."
John dialed a number, but before he could speak, Arthur snatched the phone back, saying in a low voice, "Captain, the middleman is in that white Ford car, follow from a distance, the police will intercept them, don't worry, see how it goes..."
Before he could finish, John suddenly exclaimed, "Police cars, a pickup truck with a machine gun! How did they get here so fast?"
The white car had already passed by the hotel where Captain and the others were, but at the intersection in the distance, three police cars emerged, with a pickup truck, mounted with a machine gun, in the second police car.
The drug dealer's car and the police cars faced each other, and under John's extremely astonished gaze, the machine gun on the police car suddenly and without warning fired at the white pickup truck.
Arthur was startled. He thought the police cars would intercept the drug dealer's car, but he didn't expect the police cars to open fire directly.
Gunshots rang out, bullets enveloped the white car, Arthur put down the phone and handed it to John, saying, "I'm done here, it's up to you guys now, but I think the middleman is doomed."
John took the phone dumbfoundedly, listening to Captain's urgent voice on the other end, "What's happening? What's going on? Hello, what's happening with the police cars?"
John opened his mouth, bewildered, "Uh... I'll shut up, let him talk to you."
Arthur took back the phone and said, "Um, it's hard to explain for a moment, but everything should be fine now, hang up the phone, we have to get rid of the phone."
At this point, the drug dealer's car began to stop and reverse, while the drug dealers who hadn't gotten in the car began to hide in the nearest hiding place. Two police cars had already approached the white Ford car, but at this point, the police seemed to realize that something was wrong. The two police cars began to reverse quickly, but fortunately, the drug dealers were caught off guard and there was no exchange of fire.
