Miles Morales: New Spider Chapter 31.

---

Vibranium was easier to melt than uru, the metal from the Destroyer. I bonded vibranium with my uru-enhanced claws and stingers, giving them a darker, more sinister glint. The new uru-vibranium alloy had properties I didn’t fully understand yet, but it was now much easier to pierce and tear through my skin. Vibranium's self-healing capacity meant that whenever the metal was damaged, it repaired itself, making my claws and stingers more formidable than ever.

My new suit was in the works, and it would be the ultimate combination of vibranium and uru.

In the meantime, I upgraded my web gauntlets, tentacles, foot soles, and helmet with vibranium. The enhancements made them stronger, darker, and more durable—able to withstand a bomb blast at point-blank range with barely a scratch. The web shooters now featured holo-projectors, and when positioned correctly, they could form a short-lived energy shield. The shield worked by emitting a kinetic field powered by my bioelectricity, which essentially turned me into a human battery.

The helmet, though, was the crown jewel. The vibranium interacted with my tech in ways I hadn’t anticipated, making everything cleaner and faster. My computing capacity tripled, and even April's processors received a massive upgrade. The soles of my boots were coated with vibranium, just like my tentacles, allowing them to absorb kinetic energy and make my steps silent, as most of the sound was absorbed. The tentacles themselves became slimmer and stronger, though not fully made of vibranium—just coated for extra durability.

"Good morning, Brooklyn!" I shouted, swinging from building to building.

"Hey, look! It's Arachnid!" people called out as they pointed at me.

I landed outside a burning three-story building, where thick smoke filled the air. Firefighters worked tirelessly, dousing the blaze with hoses.

"Chief, what's the situation?" I asked, walking up to the scene.

"The flames have engulfed the lower levels and are spreading upwards. My men can’t get in from below. We’re doing all we can, but any help would be appreciated."

"Got it. I’ll head inside and try to control the flames from within," I replied.

"April, Foam Webs," I commanded, before leaping into the burning building. The smoke didn’t bother me—my air filters were working perfectly. As I reached the most affected areas, I sprayed thick layers of foam, smothering the flames as much as possible.

"Boss, people are trapped on the higher floors," April informed me.

Without hesitation, I moved towards the second floor, guided by life signs. I found a mother and her two children huddled under a blanket, struggling to breathe through the thick smoke. I kicked the door open.

"It’s okay, help is here," I assured them. I pulled out three breathers, handing one to the mother while gently placing the others on the children.

I cradled both kids in my arms and secured the mother on my back using one of my tentacles. Jumping out of the window, their grips tightened as we descended rapidly. My boosters kicked in just before hitting the ground, granting us a soft landing.

“You’re both brave kids,” I said, ruffling their hair as paramedics rushed over. The mother clutched my arm, gratitude in her tear-filled eyes.

"Thank you," she whispered before being taken away by medics.

Helping people wasn’t so bad after all. Two more trips, and I had evacuated everyone from the building. The firefighters took care of the rest, extinguishing the last of the flames.

As I shook hands with the chief, I said, "You and your team did a great job."

"You’re not too bad yourself, kid."

Suddenly, loud applause erupted from the gathered crowd. "We love you, Arachnid!" someone shouted.

I turned and saw the cheering crowd. "Thank you, thank you! It’s nothing, really," I said, bowing theatrically.

I jumped atop a lamppost, spreading my tentacles to create a spider-like silhouette. "Yes, I love you too, New York!" I exclaimed, taking a deep bow.

As much as I enjoyed the praise, there was still work to be done. Someone had started the fire to distract from a nearby bank robbery. They were about to make their escape when I arrived on the scene.

On a circular glider stood a man in armor with a glowing pumpkin head. His sinister laughter echoed through the air as he tossed pumpkin bombs at police cars forming a barricade.

"Ha ha haaa!" Jack-o-Lantern cackled as the explosions rocked the street.

"Jack-o-Lantern," I called out, landing in front of him. "I’m giving you a chance to stand down. Please don’t make me regret it."

"Arachnid! Hehehehee!" he shrieked, disregarding my offer and hurling more bombs.

"Let it not be said that I’m not a generous hero," I muttered, encasing the bombs in webbing before they hit the ground, containing the explosions.

Jack-o-Lantern tried to use the smoke to cover his escape, but I wasn’t having it. I webbed his glider, yanking it to a halt, causing him to crash unceremoniously onto the asphalt.

As I approached, his pumpkin head glowed with fiery malice, and he unleashed a torrent of flames at me. His laughter echoed again, thinking he had won.

But when the smoke cleared, I stood there, completely unharmed, my mask untouched. I was tempted to return the favor with my plasma breath, but a simple takedown would suffice.

"Hee hee—" his laugh was cut short as I landed a straight punch, shattering his mask and breaking his nose. He collapsed onto the ground, unconscious, his face bloodied and bruised.

I webbed him up, hanging him upside down. Before leaving, I ripped apart his armor and left a spider-shaped shuriken with a smiley face next to him. The police liked it when I did that.

Examining his glider, I noticed it was built using Chitauri antigravity tech. I sent a pulse of bioelectricity into the power core, frying all the delicate components.

"Boss, your spiderling is at the spot," April informed me. "Spiderling" was my nickname for Peter Parker. He’d started being active recently, but only on small-scale stuff. We had a meeting spot where we hung out, and I gave him a nano-drone so he could reach me anytime.

Time to meet up.
