Miles Morales: New Spider Chapter 18.

---

It had been a day since the Green Goblin fight.

I was on a rooftop, waiting for Nick Fury. Well, I was 85% sure it would be him.

Earlier that day, Shield had contacted me. Nothing fancy, just a card and a note left under my door. They had tried hacking into my computer systems, probably to monitor my activities and scare me into doing what they wanted. I guessed they didn’t expect me to have an AI.

Yes, I had made an AI.

Actually, I’d been working on one since 2008, but those were just virtual intelligences that controlled microbots, making them smart enough to operate as a swarm or individually. But now, I had created a true AI in all its glory.

It had assimilated enough information to grow from the mental capacity of a baby to that of a fully grown adult, and it was still learning, continuing to evolve.

It had taken a slick, tricked-out computer I bought using “borrowed” funds, terabytes of data, a ton of coding, and two enhancements to finish it, but my baby was born.

No, it wasn’t going to become Skynet.

Marvel had very solid guidelines for AI, given how many there were. Shield had one. Tony had one. Some tech genius probably had one too. It was hard—genius-level hard—but not impossible, and it wouldn't turn into "kill all humans" level madness.

The only reason Ultron became what he did was because he misinterpreted his guidelines. Vision, on the other hand, followed the guidelines, though tweaking them to fit his parameters. Even if my AI turned evil, my Spidey sense would warn me.

Her name was April, and she was my baby.

Back to the matter at hand.

I was in camo mode, waiting for Nick to arrive, planning to surprise him with a Batman-like disappearing and reappearing act.

Huh, there he was, climbing the fire escape to get to the roof. He was looking around, checking his watch.

‘I’ll stand right in front of him,’ I thought.

I slowly sneaked toward him, making sure the sounds I made were minimal. I noticed he was talking through his earpiece, probably to other agents. I stood inches away from his face, staring at his eye patch and the faded scars beneath it, confidence radiating from his stature.

Suddenly, he stopped everything he was doing and looked directly at me.

I would’ve been surprised, but I expected it.

“Nice trick,” he said.

“What gave me away?” I asked, decloaking.

“The pebbles.”

“Pebbles?” I looked down and noticed the displacement of some pebbles beneath my feet.

Guess there’s a reason he became the director of Shield.

“Mr. Miles Morales, I thought you’d be shorter.”

“Milk does wonders. What does Shield want with me?”

“No, it’s what you want with Shield.”

‘I always wondered, was Shield inspired by Captain America’s shield?’

“I may be a genius, but aren’t I too young and inexperienced to be a spy?” I asked, playing oblivious to his claims.

“Not too young to try stealing tech at Stark’s Expo. Not too young to be at Harlem. Not too young to incapacitate the Green Goblin.”

I wasn’t fazed. I knew I’d be found out eventually. You win some, you lose some.

“I knew your dad, Miles. Way back in the day. He might have mentioned it, but I’m sure you’re smart enough to figure out the situation.”

“I’m sure your parents won’t be too happy to find out,” he added.

Nope, he wouldn’t threaten me.

“I beg to differ. Maybe you should try telling them. Look, Mr. Fury, you can’t coerce me into doing what I don’t want to do. If I’m going to work with Shield, it will be on attractive terms. Yes, I said *with*, not *for* you. You need me, and I need you. It’s a symbiotic relationship.”

“Do you have the ability to back up those words?”

“I do now.”

He handed me a folder.

“The Black Spider is needed for the Avengers Initiative. You’ll find all the necessary information in the folder. My agents will set you up with the contract,” he said, walking toward the exit.

“Couldn’t you have made this digital? Oh, and Mr. Fury, don’t try hacking my computer again—it’ll strain our relationship.”

I cloaked myself again and left the area.

As I reviewed the results of my new enhancements, one thought kept gnawing at my mind: *Will I ever be able to go all out in sex?*

I’d probably hurt any baseline human female.

Would I need to find a superheroine just to go all out?

I could control myself to use as little power as possible, but what would happen if I lost control? “Haaa…” I sighed.

Puberty, I knew you’d strike when I least expected it.

The Isotope 1 OZ Formula, combined with the Super Soldier Serum and my spider enhancements, had granted me an incredible superpower package.

The computer had run countless simulations on my current state. Right now, strength-wise, I was above Captain America and Black Panther, but still below Thor and the Hulk. ‘That’s about to change soon,’ I thought.

My durability was enough to tank a hit from the Hulk and come out with broken bones, which would heal in less than an hour. But that was if the Hulk could even land a blow.

My speed, agility, stamina, endurance, strength, and healing had all been raised to new heights.

My sense of balance and reflexes had reached extraordinary levels. I couldn’t even begin to describe it. I could balance horizontally on a tightrope with just my fingers, without disturbing the rope itself.

That was just one of the many things I could do now.

After the enhancements, my Spidey sense was seamlessly integrated with my body. My body could instantly react to its inputs with zero lag due to my enhanced reflexes.

My Spidey sense had also become more potent after the enhancements. I knew it stemmed from a supernatural source, but why had it become more powerful?

Maybe it always had been, but I hadn’t been able to utilize it extensively because my reflexes weren’t as developed. Now that my body could keep up, I was able to make full use of it.

Spidey sense was OP—take it from someone who had it.

I wondered how Spider-Man ever got hit.

He didn’t get the enhancements I did, so that explained some of it. But still, when your body knows where a hit is coming from before it even happens...

It warned me of dangers that hadn’t occurred yet. Guns or lasers about to fire? Someone about to hit me? My body reacted instantly, making me something close to a ghost.

Of course, the Spidey sense could be affected by indirect attacks or people not deemed threats, like parents or loved ones. Unavoidable attacks, like bomb blasts, or overwhelming attacks that I couldn’t dodge, still got through. That’s why it gave me time to prepare.

I wasn’t sure how it would interact with traps, though.

Spidey sense plus camo mode made me an ultra-lethal ghost ninja.

The Isotope One formula had pushed my evolution, including the spider parts of my genes. Hence, the reason for the stingers.

I might really be going down the Superman ninja route. Why else would these changes head toward lethality?

My stingers were made for fatal takedowns. They were strong—very strong.

They had a neurotoxic venom that acted instantly. I tested it on myself, and boy, did it work. I was paralyzed for almost 30 minutes. It was scary, but I trusted my healing factor.

My body developed an antivenom, so it didn’t work on me a second time. This was likely due to the spider side of my powers working with my healing factor.

The venom could kill by stopping someone’s respiratory system if there was enough of it in their body. Or I could just stab someone in the heart, and the venom would do the rest.

It was useful for incapacitating targets without killing them. I just had to inject a small amount.

Let’s see who tries to steal my poisonous blood now.

All of this was running through my mind, trying to give me comfort as I faced the impending doom called the Destroyer. Even with all my enhancements, I couldn’t do an inch of harm to him. I had momentarily slowed him down, but that was it—just a moment.

Why was I even here, where gods fought on their battleground?

It had been a week since I met Fury when Shield called me over about a situation. Well, actually, I wanted to be involved in this situation.

I knew that a town in New Mexico would be visited by the Destroyer because that’s where Thor crash-landed, and the ensuing conflict would occur.

I wanted pieces of the Destroyer’s armor. And god blood.

Yes, that’s right—god blood.

I didn’t know 100% what it would do to my body, but I knew it would give me something extraordinary.

I knew if I missed this chance, I wouldn’t get another. Thor was as vulnerable as a human.

Earlier that day, I had managed to get his blood.

I masked it with some scientific jargon when I was alone with Thor. I hacked into the devices in his cell, making sure the images and recordings were what I wanted them to be.

Odin had stripped him of his powers. On the outside, he was nothing more than a human, but inside, he was still a godson.

I knew he would get his powers back when he got his hammer.

After getting his blood, I waited for the Destroyer, that Loki would be sending.
