All Blues - Miles Davis

Miles Davis’s composition All Blues is widely acknowledged as one of the most influential pieces in jazz. It belongs to the modal type of songs.

A strong, simple bass line opens the song, the horns and the piano join in, slowly setting the scene for the theme played by Miles which immediately follows.

The song was originally written in G mixolydian mode but for this arrangement I used a capo on the 3rd fret turning it into E mixolydian (which is the key of A major).

As this song contains some of the most important solos in jazz played by Miles, Cannonball Adderley and Coltrane, I didn’t want to exclude them and focus exclusively on the theme. Therefore, I used a chorus from Miles’s solo and another one from Cannonball’s solo and integrated them into the arrangement as well.

The form of the arrangement:

Intro: bass line and chords vamp

Solo - Miles

Solo - Cannonball Adderley
