Loss was the overall theme of this arc buy when you combine it with all of the events of impel down just to lose this bad is just devastating. Luffy pulled out all the stops for Ace. He pushed himself to the brink of his abilities and beyond and still it wasn't enough. And you're right one piece really does lure you in with the happy funny pirate times just to punch you in the face with events like this. This episode man...it had me going through the stages of grief.
