Arlong and Nami's relationship shows how atrocities can easily open the gate for more atrocities. Human's hatred of fishmen made Arlong what he was, and he pushed that hate down to Nami with his hatred of humans. Nami could've easily become as hateful to fishmen, but thanks to the love of the strawhats and her village, she was able to separate her distate of Arlong from pirates and fishmen in general!
