Iβve been very excited to share these animations - this is the Jester!
The gimmick with this enemy is they are an elementalist - the jester can shift between 3 states: burn, shock, and acid.
They have 2 attacks - a two hit slash attack, and a dive. If they havenβt shifted, these attacks will just deal damage, but in their elemental forms each attack will apply a nasty debuff of the respective colour.
the crawlers are our only melee enemy right now, and on their own theyβre pretty easy to deal with. Iβm hoping the jester will be a real nightmare, and keep you on your toes! But, this also means we can reuse a lot of the crawlers behaviours to get at least the base of the jester up and running. On the tech side, thereβs a few new behaviours (namely, the element shift + related shader fun for the colour effect) and other AI things Val is figuring out, but weβll share footage of them in game as soon as we have it :D
As for some lore, this is the first of the enemies (at least, that arenβt just concept art) that is fully born of the flesh, and not corrupting an existing robot. So, lots of goo was necessary in these animations. I learnt a lot about how Iβm going to be designing and executing the flesh enemies going forward, itβs gonna be a lot of work but I know theyβre gonna be very cool when the time comes to it. The next one up is the horseman, but that might not be for a little while yet!
Anyway, I hope youβre all doing great, and thank you for your support on my work. Thereβs a lot of new patrons, and if this is your first time reading about Last Sprout, you can check out the tag or the Last Sprout collection on this post to see everything Iβve been posting about the project for the past few years :} thank you so much for letting me do this, and I will be back with the February update video soon to show off the debuffs working in game, as well as the modular upgrade system which contains the elemental skill tree β€οΈππ±
