Heya fried. I have been using Mental Ray with Maya 2017. Yeah, everything is different in these 2 renders pretty much. Also, I am sure I could get the Mental Ray render to look "prettier" but the problem is, I would need to add a bunch of extra lights and the render times would be even longer. Also, I NEED to switch render engines because Mental Ray is essentially dead and I need something I can use more long term.

Wow, the different between Arnold & the old engine is night & day. Everything just looks so much brighter and more vibrant with Arnold. Definitely the right choice!

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I prefer the realism of the old render versus the overly vibrant and animated, albeit very well done(the shading looks amazing), newer rendering. I know nothing about animation so please take my opinion with that in mind, but my personal preference is something more realistic, which I'm assuming the new machine has far more capabilities, so maybe I'm not helpful here(or are you showing the difference in color, vibrancy, etc.. capabilities between the two machines?).

Hello Red! First off I would just like to say how great those rendered images above look. The Arnold engine does appear to be quite a bit more powerful than the old one. Secondly I was wondering something about "Amy's Big Wish." I was wondering if we will get to see anymore of the flourishing familial relationship between Mary, Maggie and Bella in that story, or if that's all being contained to AML.

It's a bit pink overkill. Frankly I liked the old flowery wall decoration + bedsheets better. The renderer is definitely better. Some adjustments with brightness and colorfulness ant it should be good.

The room definitely is a lot more vibrant alright! I like that the lamps and pillows have those green elements to them, really makes them pop against the warm pinks (same with the plant too). Overall I do prefer the new room, the vibrancy and vividness in the colours as well as the overall warmth is very appealing, it's a nice setting for all the naughtiness that will likely take place there 😉

Looks great, but hopefully it won't go too Disney.... when colours (yes I'm British, hence spelling words correctly ;P) get too vivid they can appear quite sickly..... always bear in mind the genre you are producing and ensure the imagery/colour scapes are appropriate. Just 2 cents from a grumpy old man!

Looks quite nice. Much more depth in lighting. What engine did you end up going with? V-ray?
