Hello! Last week I'd started working on this new page but I didn't get enough done to share with you yet, so this week I have a lot more of the comic done and have moved through the sketch phase into the inked and ready to paint phase. There is a fair bit to post about, though, so I'll get right to that.
In this current arc of the story I have two major threads that are somewhat intertwining. The first thread, which I think has become fairly well-anticipated by long-time readers, is Lizzie and Alice's romance arc, which has been weaving around the larger main story arc. The second thread is one that has been somewhat lowkey for a while, and that's Monday's list of names. The opening shot of this page has Alice changed out of her scrubs and heading out the front door of the infirmary to go meet up for lunch, so the next time we see her it's going to be an exciting few pages, but before that happens we have some other friends to talk to.
This first panel is going to be a huge pain for me to paint- it's the interior of the newspaper printing facility so it has those giant printing machines just planted right there, and I'm gonna have to reference the last page I painted them on as well as looking up photos of large-scale printers and get them printed correctly, in a bending perspective. The catwalk on the second floor also needs to be rendered in 3D, so overall I anticipate this panel is going to be a huge pain to do, but once its done the remaining shots are up on the catwalk facing the wall, which is historically the easiest of all possible shots to do. Once I'm through this first panel I should be relatively free.
During the Tombstone arc our friends have been introduced to their respective bosses at their new jobs, which all reflect their old jobs prior to the arriving of the dead. Lizzie meets the Leung family, Alice meets her old coworker Dr. Parker, Lou we've yet to touch base with. Monday's boss is the Deputy Mayor, Maria Martinez, who herself answers to the Mayor, Steven Richardson. Mayor Richardson is the fellow who runs the city's newspaper, and his name happens to be on Monday's list of people to meet, alongside the gentleman who ran the bank he visited during the Sympathy for the Devil scene. In this context it may become clear why Monday is happy to work a clerk job in this makeshift town hall, and why he is employing his most effective disguise.
I've got a minicomic to share today as well which may be somewhat connected to this page. Thanks for your patient support of my work, I'm excited to get the next couple pages in the can. Until then, take care!
