This has been something of a short week for me, since I needed to take care of some holiday things, but I did make a bit of progress on the next page. I'm aiming to get it finished before the end of November, but at the latest this page should be done by next Friday, so it's on track to be finished in fairly short order.
When I'm painting a page I usually don't use the same exact values of grey for different characters over and over again, I tend to build them from scratch on each page and then reference them internally in that page. Every part of this comic's art is pretty organic and impermanent, I feel like that allows me to make design changes and be flexible long-term. It also lets me focus on painting to capture the lighting in a scene rather than saying, okay, shirt X is Y value so I'll start with that. All my values are relative to other values, which I keep track of in my head, so as long as they look "correct" in that regard you can still tell a character is a character, the specifics don't really matter that much to me.
The background phase of this page is projected to be fairly easy, since it's just more of that building behind them again, but that last panel is going to need to be big and grand so that background alone might take me an entire day. It's always a good indicator that a background will take time when there's long depth of field and lots of geometry to render in 3D perspective; also, if I have to go back to other pages to reference what buildings I drew there previously so I can keep the world consistent that will also add on to my mental calculation time.
This weekend I will be making headway on finishing up the first-pass painting on these panels so I can try to get it wrapped up as soon as I can at the start of next week, but it should not take me longer than the projected timeframe to finish. Thank you for your continued patience and support of my work. Have a nice weekend, and I'll be back with a textless page to post sooner than later.
