Apropos of lairs and stuff, Rain might be excellent at going through a maze. Even if [detection] doesn't work well for mapping (and it probably will), you could use it for orientation, by finding 'landmarks' of a particular metal or crystal. Also, a low-intensity [purification] would likely mark the paths he's taken before pretty clearly.

2019-07-13 12:10:09 +0000 UTCActually, considering a meter is affixed to a universal constant, the fact its nice round numbers could be merely a coincidence. It would be amusing if everyone else has decimals and odd numbers in their range descriptions because thats the measurement they know of

2019-07-13 01:42:55 +0000 UTCHm, about length units... I can see a couple of scenarios explaining why the System measures aura size in meters. Most have interesting implications. First, the System was coded by somebody from Earth, and therefore uses meters, and the local unit probably corresponds to '1 m', because it is "the unit of the Gods" and therefore superior. (Also, Rain is in the Matrix.) Second, the System uses meters because Rain is comfortable with the 'meter' unit, and scales mana costs accordingly, meaning there's probably an option for changing that in the GUI. Third, the System translates into meters, rounding off numbers, and the unit they use is roughly the same as a meter, but not exactly so. This means that someday, the aura diameter is inexplicably going to jump to, say, 51 or 49 instead of an expected 50, once the rounding catches up to reality. Fourth, Rain's memories were messed with to change his definition of a meter to that of the local unit, which is creepy. (What else did they change?)

2019-07-11 23:04:08 +0000 UTCmicrowave ovens do not cook evenly over the entire volume. They tend to cook deeper into the meat then other types of ovens, but they still cook vastly more on the outside then the inside. Despite the bullhucky people say about causing vibrations in the water molecules as the heating method (this happens also but it's not the main method of heating) most of the heating action is because it's simply a very bright light that most materials can absorb easily. Sorry to rant on that. It's one of those science things that people get wrong constantly and it drives me bonkers.

2019-07-11 16:28:58 +0000 UTCDoes overmana affect muscle memory, too? If Rain gets someone to actually train him in combat and spear use, is he going to learn it at ten times the speed of a normal student? I mean, his damage will be crap compared to people with actual stats, but if a monster lunges at you and the spear butt is supported by the ground or a wall, you basically use the monster's strength to determine the damage, anyway. The spear is a good defensive weapon for him, especially a boar spear, I'd guess. Maybe a shield, too; his focus ought to be keeping monsters off him while his auras do the work.

2019-07-11 15:05:39 +0000 UTCHopefully, Rain will fulfil the prerequisites for [aura IFF] by the time they go out adventuring. He's not nearly as valuable in a party now, as he'll be with all his skill points allocated to the right skills. Of course, he'll likely have unlocked more hidden skills by then, so in the end it might be a different allocation than what's planned now. I did some math, and when Rain has maxed his current regen/enhance skills, he should be somewhere between 1 and 1.5 mana per second (depending on how much he has increased Clarity by then), about 3 times his current regen, and 4.5 with aura focus on. That makes for a lot of mana he can spend on training... (Hm, I wonder whether pill-enhanced regeneration is multiplied by [winter]. My expectation is "yes, but the pill regenerates a fixed amount of MP total, so it will last that much shorter". I also wonder whether his [well] skills count as regen since they're channeled, so a Vivificant would get 30 times as much out of [life well]. My hunch there is "no", though.)

2019-07-11 14:08:30 +0000 UTCThe meat would probably keep pretty well just by blasting it with [purify] three times a day. With ice in the mix, too... Yeah, it's going to be fine. I wonder whether Rain can use [immolation] to cook things. Would it heat the meat equally across the whole volume - like a microwave - or just from every direction, like frying it in oil?
