Chapter 32

I had a plan for this chapter was going to go, then, everything changed when the math nation attacked.

Comments

I think you convert them to decimals for multiplication. 152% is 1.52 which you times the mana regen rate with. In the second chapter or so, there are skills that boost arm strength by 4% or something. I don't know if it's a mistake or something before buffs became over 100%.

Calculations involving Winter are always confusing. You write 'multiply by 152%' but count only 52% part... Either change it to 52% boost, or count all 152% in calculations please

8Psycho

Val said water when he was explaining [Fall] so probably yes to rehydration. I kinda doubt it does anything for oxygen but who knows. My theory for an associated well would be [Rejuvenation Well] which would keep the mind fresh and remove the need to sleep.

Garrett

i think it's just mana cost, he didn't get any more exp when he was staying in the guild hostel, and lots of people probably were in his range

MagicWafflez

hm~ from val's pov, switching from refrigerate to immolate didn't help, he felt the cold in his bones and his skin was burning... probably he'd need the heat and cold wards. that said, the seasons also cause mild feelings of warmth and coolness

MagicWafflez

Hmm... If [fall] gives 'sustenance', is that just nutrition, or is it more than that? Like, when Rain gets it, can he substitute for oxygen, and stay underwater for hours? Can he rehydrate a thirsty person? (Huh, I wonder what use cases there are for the associated well-aura...)

Elaborate

Does [refrigerate] always do damage? Like, could he use it to negate heat damage, chilling the party while they go through a volcanic area? I suppose with [aura IFF], though, he could chill their surroundings, and let them benefit from the secondary cold...

Elaborate

Hmmm... Do [winter] and [summer] give more XP if more people are benefiting from them? Or is it just the MP cost? I suppose if Tallheart was within its range at night, Rain would have noticed the extra XP in the morning, though...

Elaborate

What skills would you have preferred he get?

Garrett

Why is this chapter not like 3x longer. I need more content ;-;!!!

Christian Kenney

I do not agree with this character's decisions for skills this chapter.

Frardowin

Great chapter! Thanks

Chris Bridgeman

I'll have to add that movie to my watch list. Very intense staring as a method of language learning. Good scene, but potato video quality on youtube. Thanks.

SenescentSoul

This guy gets it!

SenescentSoul

Yup. Typo in the attributes dialog, not math error. All of the M.Regen numbers were already correct using 160. Fixed in my local copy. Thanks!

SenescentSoul

Ok, the math for this is interesting. I think I have it close enough if not exactly correct: Transfer Rate = Base cost * 20% * Intensity Multiplier Resulting Cost = Base cost * Intensity Multiplier * (1 + log (Cost multiplier)) Efficiency = 20% / (1 + log(Cost Multiplier)) So, the less costly you push the aura, the more efficient it gets. For training, pushing the cost and intensity is best. For providing to others, minimizing the cost multiplier is best (including Aura Channeling). It'll be interesting to see how Essence Well behaves with level ups, to see if the efficiency of 20% changes or not. (if it does, then he's going to be Mr. BatteryPack) Interesting to note though, from the resulting cost equation - if your Cost Multiplier reaches 0.1, the cost should become free! Free mana for all!

Andrew Meyers

well, I'm hoping that aura IFF has something that lets him know if people are in his aura, otherwise he could be buffing an enemy and not know it, ya?

MagicWafflez

Maybe you can pay more than a level's worth of XP at a time, as long as you haven't spent the points? As far as I know, Rain hasn't tried it yet.

Elaborate

Hmmm, I can imagine someone getting a skill to avoid [detection] - but would they get one to avoid a mana refill? Rain could use [essence well] every time he wants to be sure he's alone, checking his own regen to know whether he's sharing his aura with someone...

Elaborate

The Math Nation must be defeated. Only then can we all live in harmony.

Rip Woodham

Of the two, [shear] is probably more useful in a dangerous place. However, I think he ought to hold off on spending the last point until he's maxed out most of his skills, just in case that unlocks some truly overpowered hidden skill...

Elaborate

On a side note, I just noticed that his class exp requirement is finally high enough for him to unlock tier 3 skills. Assuming that they continue the trend and cost 10,000 experience to unlock.

Garrett

hey author, you lost 10 pts in clarity... he should have 160. at the start he had 10pts in clarity and 20 free points at level one, so zero got some points too

MagicWafflez

I note that with the Empire's setup, there are no high-level Beacons, so few people there might know how such a build might develop. Outside the Empire, too, few would want a Beacon build, because the Empire might be interested in them. So... Danger that might contain opportunity.

Elaborate

I wholeheartedly approve of Rain picking up the [Essence Well] and [Aura Synergy] skills. Those were way too useful to put off. Now the question is what skills should he spend his last four skill points on. He has seven skills within reach that he wants but he can only get four of them; [Aura IFF], [Summer], [Life Well], [Spring], [Energy Well], [Fall], and [Shear]. [Aura IFF] is obviously top priority. If he wants [Fall] he needs to give up both well skills and [Shear] which doesn't seem worth it (the wells specifically), so I vote that he picks up [Summer] and [Life Well] since healing is too important and then just use the last point for whichever of his last two available skills he thinks is most important ([Spring] or [Shear]).

Garrett

Math Nation Represent!

The reasoning for him not wanting summer is sorta wonky , especially as earlier in the chapter he was wary of using a scroll because they only have two.

Raveve

eh, i don't think he'd get kidnapped... since the seasons are used by slaves, they probably don't think very highly of the auras themselves... there are a lot of OP people in the world~ they might demand his build, but i doubt they would try to enslave him specifically.

MagicWafflez

I figured the Empire would do something like the Beacon thing. Rain ought to be very careful about spreading around what he can do. If he can do all the season auras and that gets out, he might get kidnapped by the Empire... ...Actually, he should assume that this *will* happen sooner or later, and plan accordingly. There's no good strategy at present, but a good start is to constantly claim to be lower-level than he is, so he can plausibly hide some of his better skills, like [aura IFF] and [prismatic intent] once he gets them. Can people forcibly detect someone's level? That will be important to know. Speculating on skills that *might* be unlocked later, and Rain then *might* get after level 25... *[Sleep aura] might be unlocked by maxing the three usual seasons. *[Poison aura] might be unlocked by maxing [fall]. *[Aura mastery] will probably let Rain decrease the range of aura, among other things. I think [prismatic intent] combined with [detection], [aura IFF], [channel mastery], [sleep aura] and [poison aura] would be devastating. When the army that uses him as a Beacon brings him out in the field, he could wait until nightfall, detect the alert sentries and avoid them with [aura IFF], [poison]/[sleep] everyone else until they die, gradually overpower the sentries with low-power [sleep], then [shear] himself out of the chains and run.

Elaborate

The second one 🙃

SenescentSoul

Hm, so if the targets have full MP, do they not count, or do they get overmana? I would assume overmana, since you'd want [life well] to give overhealth. Interesting that the efficiency gets higher when he uses [channeling mastery] to reduce the MP cost. But it kind of makes sense, too.. I note that I was correct in my speculation of what the [fall] aura does. Yay! Now I wonder what effect overnutrition has... Hm, is there some build that just... never needs to eat? My intuition is that Rain ought to use [aura focus] and [channeling mastery](-) with [mana well] until he's empty, then all-enhanced [winter] until he's full, then repeat, for a decent bonus to all involved auras. Can someone math this? By 'Math nation', btw, do you mean the ch.30 comment storm - that was a lot of math - or just Rain's overwhelming desire to make and look at tables until they comprised, like, half the chapter? (I approve of this...)

Elaborate

He does have a couple day walk before they get to the mine, a walk in which he can get another level or two.

Alston Sleet

I'm slightly horrified he didn't choose to get the health aura. As a experienced Dn'D player he has to know that going out without a healer is near suicide! 'Glass cannon' builds are pretty bad IRL. Too much can surprise you out of nowhere and once you're dead there are no do overs!!

tibbish

hm~~ 4 more skills,,, i hope he does get summer and life well, HP is kind of important, what with how often he and ppl around him get hurt. 2 scrolls won't do much... ug, focus levels so slowly, he should do velocity or detection with just focus on... then more mana will be used on that vs. the other 2. last 2 skills i think should be aura IFF and Prismatic Intent, since he already got aura synergy. edit: oh, woops, prismatic intent requires 15 auras, and he'd only have 9, i guess spring is also in his future~

MagicWafflez

I somehow feel weirdly responsible for the Beacons of the Empire @_@ (even though I know its previously mentioned that there's a place that does something like that before I did my 'battery military conjecture' a few chapters ago) its nice to know that Fall does, in fact, exist and thats an interesting take that I'd not expected. i was wondering how it would fill a niche that the other three didn't cover Damn, I was expecting Val to see him making the tables and be like "WTF is all this shit". Val's lack of culinary skills is quite acceptable in exchange though :P Oh god, trying to remember how to do log and e by hand, nope nope nope

Keifru

Guess I'm early
