Hello and Happy New Year! I made an effort to try to rest this last week of the year but I ended up doing a bunch of work anyways. I made gamedev progress and also got through the tedious ink and flat phase of the current page, so I expect I can get the remaining five panels done in the next seven days and get this page posted before the 7th. I also made some big progress on the gamedev front which I'm excited to share as well, so I'll be closing the year out with two posts tonight.
The big challenge I'll be facing in this part of the process will be figuring out how to capture the lighting I want. I have panel one blocked in with some base level of brightness but I think I am going to have to darken the lower parts of the walls to help capture the feeling of a soft light in a darkish room. I am noticing now that I am approaching the walls as if they were painted drywall, which is incorrect for a work trailer like this, I should be making them wood slat walls. Going with a wood panel means the base color can be a lot darker and I can add a glossier illumination to the planks. That's a good note and I'm glad to catch it just now, it will make the whole rest of the page a fair bit easier to do. The texture of the walls can change the whole feeling of a scene so I'm excited to make that correction and see how much better the first panel looks.
I'm gonna keep it there for now and get some rest before the year rolls out, and then I'll be going all-in in the new year. Thank you for joining me throughout 2022. I'm very, very tired but I still have more work to do, so I hope you enjoy these weekly process reports and hope to share many more of them with you in 2023. Until next year, I'll see you on the other side.
