092: Fracture

I think he has to unlock and level them in order. e.g. Winter, Spring, Summer ... then that unlocks fall

Deegles

No. He needs skill points to unlock them. To get skill points he needs to kill higher lvl blues than himself. At least as far as we know. Maybe there is a way around this as others have speculated

tibbish

Now that I'm thinking about it, didnt he need to unlock one of the 4 seasonal auras? This might be the time it happens, I think that he has to starve before it's unlocked.

Yashakami

Wow, Ss great job on lore and universal build here, the system you've created is really something else. I'm not sure if our first mention of a crystal slime was in the duengon or earlier for foreshadowing, I know emperor slimes were mentioned pretty early on and I'm hoping that is the direction all this goes, but either way the out come is redunculious. To think the lowly slime could be written in as the holy grail of plot holes is fudging amazing dude. Seriously good work.

ricky jackson

Haha glad he got a slime pet! I was hoping he'd get one when he purified the first one.

Sickul

In the short term, yeah, that seems to be all its good for. In the long term it'll probably play a more important role. Honestly though, I'm glad. If something as simple as using a Tier 1 skill on yourself for one day was enough to break the system, then no one knowing about it would be complete BS and a contrivance on the part of the author to make the MC into an OP protagonist. Finding one piece of the OP puzzle is much better and will make Rain putting the pieces together and achieving his OP destiny as an isekai protagonist far more satisfying.

Slow

His Dad

I'm a bit lost, when reading the previous chapter I thought there were hints that with "Essence Meditation" he could increase his cap, but at the start of this chapter, Rain's thought seem to indicate otherwise when he says that in the end, it's not really broken and he could have gotten similar results from using Winter and Velocity... So in the end, is it just a way to get Exp without spending resources ? I thought it would be more than that...

Daoist

this chapter felt really short, and not much of anything happened...It was still a good chapter though, even though I'm complaining, I enjoyed it.

Daolord Badlands

Or, alternatively, how far he can get it in one day of full output...

Mike G.

>plot movement >slime pet pick one

jdouglas

The limiting factor for monster levels in an area is the ambient Mana right? If the slime levels from his Mana, I wonder how high he can get it before it's threshold is beyond his daily output.

Pyrefiend

The quality of the story is not bad just missing quantity, so it is worth being a patreon.

I agree that not enough happened in this chapter in one way, and too much happened in that Dozer appears and for now seems to be a distraction from moving the plot forward. I'd have liked to see Rain attempt to add "Essence" to his stats panel, at a minimum. How much the system resists would be great info, even if the attempt fails.

Mike G.

Fixed, thanks.

SenescentSoul

I relate to this comment so much. Hits the nail on the head.

Timothy Alexander

He is trapped in a city with limited options of what to do, and now on top of that he is trapped inside a smaller semi-hostile area with almost nothing to do in, and getting out of that inner trapped area seems to be well on its way to me a mini/small arc by itself. In this "short" chapter there is even added another distraction in the form of a slime pet, while there being minimal plot progression (and no character or power progression to speak of). This makes it feel as if the story's progression is repeatedly getting shackled and is getting slower and slower. I hope that this will get managed better in the future, since it has reach the point where these plot mechanics that mainly add tension for the reader has started to instead grind away the emotional investment in the characters.

Ninetails

I think what this story needs is the big showdown between Westbridge and Lavarro to have taken place before these just before these chapters of rain trapped underground. Maybe frequent cuts between a slower more cerebral battle between two high level mages and Velika slaughtering everyone. After a climax like that these slower chapters wouldn't feel like they drag on.

And Then There Was None

Nice chapter. The slime will probably be useful in removing the debris after rain breaks the stones into smaller chunks.

Jerzylo

I'm kind of glad it didn't since overcoming levelling caps for nothing would ruin so much dramatic potential.

And Then There Was None

Probably just levelling up.

And Then There Was None

The Essence chapter hinted at something really cool happening, this was alright but next to nothing happened

Pocket Rikimaru Thanatos

The slime is totally evolving because of the mana isn't it?

Azareck

1 chapter a week is just not enough with such a slow progression, seeing the rating of this chapter :)

Thenais

Look like nothinh happend in this chapter, I mean having the pet is nice but i'm getting tired because the story doesn't move

If he can get the slime to lvl every day then he'll have a handy pet in no time. If your pet kills a blue does it count as your kill? Be convenient if a lvl 25+ blue of some type showed up that slimes are super effective against. I like the Tel making idea.

Meschmee

It [was] oddly expressive for...

Newguy Roy

Some breakthrough has to happen some time right? Your not going to perpetually tease a breakthrough or an action chapter forever?

Thank you!!

Andrew

He tamed the slime using skill, not a Skill. The system recognized that he did the appropriate actions to tame it, similar to how there are probably Skills for cooking, but you can still cook without them.

Elayda

I really don't want to get bored of this, but it's getting close. The last thing this story needed was a fluff chapter that spent most of its time on the MC's new pet slime. Now, I know that people are already theorizing that this new pet is going to be the key to Rain's eventual breakthrough, but it feels like the story has been teasing that for months now. The thought that, next chapter, things are finally going to kick into gear, is the thing that's kept me coming back week after week after week, and it's what's ultimately started to burn me out.

Empty Shelf

The last two chapters I was unable to click the link on the patreon App somehow

Tycho Green

It'd be convenient if Rain could get Dozer to actually eat through the rock. Maybe he can get it to re-acquire a chemical type?

giant_snark

I quite enjoyed this chapter!

Gabriel

Isn't a big deal that he tamed te slime and the system recognized it. Doesn't that also mean he can learn other things for the system to recognize? If he learns the knife skills which are predetermined routs he should get that skill and be able to level it. Systems where you can only buy skills are boring. There should be some freedom to it. If it showed that exp points were taken for the taming it would show skills can be learned by hard work as well.

Chris

Thanks for the chapter.

Joshua Little

I think Tel are like a battery. They allow monsters to store essence mana what have you and when they reach an energy threshold they level. The more they level the more they can fight other monster to steal their tell to make larger composites like we saw with the dark hounds in the initial mine dive eventually going up to grand tel and higher. When used in items they either give a mana storage capacity for enchantment or confer a bonus based on their type when used like dark tel in Rain's armor.

Michael Hughes

Having actually read the chapter I am a little disappointed. I like the slime, I like the plan to go back towards the chamber with the corpses because the stones on the way out are too big, I love the ice expansion (Loved it on eleventh hour and mcgyver as well), but I don't like that it took this long to try purify on the rubble, or that he can't determine a load bearing wall, and I hate that it was only 13 and a half pages long with a 1 page graphic of things we already knew. I love this story and I will read it till the end but I wish it was the beginning with 1k of pages to read instead of a trickle of pages once a week like being trapped in a cave in with only ration bars and water. Still keep up the good work and I will be back Wednesday and Sunday.

Michael Hughes

Huh maybe Tel is the missing ingredient for self leveling. They're required for magical items and I don't think we've seen an Essence Monster ever drop any. Rain could also try and make a high level Blue with the tamed slime.

Atlas Dwarf

Hmmmm a bit underwhelming chapter i would say i thought it will be a training chapter or discussing about his discovery about essence well, at least i hope this knowledge in taming would become really useful later on.

I’m kinda excited about it ngl. Familiars are always my favorite, though.

PJ LeBlanc

Whelp, two more weeks before he gets free.

Orion Dye

I’m always hoping for a midweek chapter, more so than usual after this. Maybe the taming of the slime will lead to an important revelation later, but as of now, it’s kind of nothing chapter.

Patrick camp

Slimy McSlimeface was a superior name, certainly

Well shit not gonna sleep yet.

Valter Anunciação

First? My very first first. Now to read the chapter.
