Best . Chapter . Ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2020-06-19 13:03:31 +0000 UTCHe doesn't want more attention, nor folks to lean on him about the settings (e.g. Velika). He was pretty explicit about it in his inner dialog.

2020-06-16 17:31:33 +0000 UTCBit miffed Rain didn’t attempt to use the public address to communicate. Every awakened in the city can see shield status and mana siphon warning. How difficult would it have been to broadcast his success using that system...one of the few he knows exists?
Silver Beard
2020-06-16 00:10:41 +0000 UTC200 names isn’t equivalent to the 10K or whatever still alive. Most of those names are the defenders who can’t/won’t abandon their charges. I’d say he’s still stuck...possibly screwed. Though he might be able to run the dungeon with Amelia and the others that will be able to come in now. How I see this playing out. Suspect the dungeon overflowing...where moss and critters in town coming from. Clear the lair...save the town
Silver Beard
2020-06-16 00:00:41 +0000 UTCThe problem is you need chapters that set up payoff chapters like this. The set up chapters a lot of the time feel very much like filler until they actually come relevant.

2020-06-15 22:49:05 +0000 UTCIf the barrier suddenly started playing BFG division people might have a bigger panic than when mobs started spawning.
Adam Roundfield
2020-06-15 21:40:33 +0000 UTCCrap. My only coding experience comes from Bethesda games, specifically Morrowind... Ummmm, well let's run through the basics! player-> sethealth 9999999 tfh tgm streammusic "C:/vladerag/my music/doom soundtrack/bfg division" oh, and while I'm here I suppose I had better do something about the barrier. Hmmm, well I'd just delete it but I bet the obelisk would just create a new one... Unless... stopscript disable "barrier_001" ...I like to imagine that none of that would work for Rain except for the music but.
Vladerag
2020-06-15 21:09:46 +0000 UTCThere's an idea lol. If the obelisk was able to learn to send information through only a specific soul link, it should be fine with learning to send it through Dozer's soul link. All we have to do is make him touch the stone.
Starless
2020-06-15 18:39:24 +0000 UTCThe real reason the obelisk exists is to be the best wifi-transmitter ever! If soul-links can work remotely like with Dozer, then a portable admin window or a perpetual CLI for rain would be amazing. The barrier must just be a happy side effect.
Eric Hartz
2020-06-15 17:15:46 +0000 UTCIt totally did, that's some straight up Geek Squad energy right there. One has to wonder why it would even attempt such a thing. Hmm...since souls are closer to operating systems than we previously thought, do you guys think it's possible for Rain to give Admin/User access to his soul to other people?
Starless
2020-06-15 14:23:21 +0000 UTCReef them out of that job

2020-06-15 02:25:21 +0000 UTCDid the obelisk try turning him off and back on again?
Adam Roundfield
2020-06-15 01:54:07 +0000 UTCYeah, I'd also think the obelisk has more features than just a Barrier. We'll see if he's finds any or maybe if he comes back in the future.

2020-06-15 01:04:26 +0000 UTCGrab me a ticket on the "this was excellent" train. Really enjoyed it, and all the progress with the same feeling completely earned. Great job.

2020-06-14 22:09:24 +0000 UTCThis chapter was pure awesomeness. These console jokes killed me several times over.
2020-06-14 20:41:47 +0000 UTCLook at all this progress! No extra 3 chapters of filler bullshit, just momentum! Very little of this chapter felt unnecessary, not even the jokes. More like this please.
2020-06-14 20:05:03 +0000 UTCHmmm, with the way the soul tethers work in addition to the crystal slime subplot, I'm of the opinion that Rain is going to start making blues, rather than bypass them altogether.

2020-06-14 19:55:11 +0000 UTCI want more!!! lol thanks for the chapter.

2020-06-14 19:43:09 +0000 UTCSpeculation time. I'm thinking Rain is very close to breaking through some threshold with his soul that will allow him to continue leveling without having to deal with the issue of finding a more powerful blue. Kinda like your soul needs to be X powerful to handle your core going forward. Everything seems to hinge on how powerful your soul is after all. How many changing you can handle. How many skill unlocks you can do at any given time and so forth. So I think level lock is the same. The system just won't allow you to advance because you'd get extreme level soul strain ?

2020-06-14 19:23:17 +0000 UTCYou ok buddy?
Robert
2020-06-14 16:10:40 +0000 UTCRain is somewhat protected by being a member of the guild and more protected because the faction leaders of those inside the bubble will vouch for him (accept guild dude but Rain can probably handle him)
wanderer117
2020-06-14 16:05:34 +0000 UTCI dont think the threshold refered to in this chapter has that much meaning. It was just the Barrier stone saying Rains System is only 64% compatable with the Barrier stones interface. Which is below some threshold that the builders set, before it tries to 'fix' a persons System to make it more compatable.

2020-06-14 16:00:45 +0000 UTCdammit, if only there was a platform where i could pay money to get more chapters. this is good shit.

2020-06-14 14:52:41 +0000 UTCInteresting. Threshold refers to the maximum rate at which the system identifies and corrects errors between mismatched data to ultimately arrive at a net positive response. So it looks like the system is greatly inhibited by the fact that it has to translate input actions from Awakened users, process the exact meaning into system language, and transmit the resultant skill or action back to them in a way their soul understands. I'd imagine Rain can significantly increase his threshold values by recoding his skills such that the input value was some function(x) of whatever logic the non-euclidion space he was in used and replaced all the alphabet input values with their system language equivalent by using that original wingdings message as a translation tool.
Starless
2020-06-14 14:23:27 +0000 UTCCan he use his macros outside of mindspace? If so, he could make scripts for combat, so he never gets hit faster than he can turn on his defense aura.

2020-06-14 14:00:36 +0000 UTCPoor naive Rain, thinking he’ll just be able to walk away after “handing over the keys”. He knows too much, he’s obviously going to be “recruited” by the DKE, or arrested by the watch “for his own protection”. God help him if he gets the Warden’s attention.

2020-06-14 11:21:06 +0000 UTCOr the Warden doesnt want to make a week long trip in the middle of winter while having to deal with monster spawns whenever she goes to camping. Just haove the clone deal with it and teleport the main body in when done.
Frogspoison
2020-06-14 11:06:54 +0000 UTCWell - he got out, good for him. What stands out (for me) in this chapter are 2 things. 99% soul defragmentation? Jikes, he seriously needs a defrag, his (soul)hd must be slowed down like hell. xD Also - what kind of monster is lavaro? Did she seriously just shrug of the wardens skill and goes on as if nothing happened? Or does the warden try to get the daughter for... jeah for what? With her mindskills she propably dosnt need a hostage to make lavaro do what she wants. Maybe the warden just wants to bring down the shield for her own purpose? But that would work for the benefit of the empire, and she dosnt like the guy. O_o So, lavaro more powerful than expected? Sounds most likely.

2020-06-14 10:34:22 +0000 UTCThe Enforcer's name got added to the Resident list, which lets people contact you. We saw the same thing with the the Velika and her connection to Westbridge. Likely, this also means the Residents can teleport in and out.

2020-06-14 09:54:26 +0000 UTCThinking about it the Soul Fragmentation is probalby a measure of the chaos that he and others see when looking at his soul. This might give him a hint as to what he needs to do to fix it, by basicaly sorting it out and ordering all the bits making it up.
payforthat
2020-06-14 09:52:23 +0000 UTCSo looking at the logs from the barrier connection, it first attempted to 'conform' Rains System. That failed It then tried to so a 'System Recovery' - so reset Rains system to defaults? Or at least to pre-conforming state. That failed too. So now does Rain have a barrier edited System? A partial magisterial adjustment to his System? Differences in peoples Systems might expalin why he can use Winter asleep. As an outworlder maybe he got a different System to people born in the world?. Or maybe each persons System customises itself based on peoples expectations - of which Rain has less. After that it scanned him to find the source of the errors. It got warnings for paling and soul fragmentation, but proper error was him only been level 18. It then tried to checked his Focus, but got an error that looks like Rains system was not able to give a proper response to that query? 'Callback error'? At that point it aborted the scan as Rains system was/became unstable. It went through a few emergency fallback orders before accepting Rains blue screens as a substitue interface and gave Rain admin access. Intrestingly a different admin level from the one normaly acquired.

2020-06-14 08:53:19 +0000 UTCCould you switch back to black on white? I find the reversed colors difficult to read. Also, in some epub readers the background doesn’t display at all, making the text completely illegible. Thanks for the chapter! I’m excited to see how this plays out.

2020-06-14 07:17:28 +0000 UTCIt seems the DKE have something Majistraal related hidden in that secret vault. Also I wonder if the reason the Enforcer could be contacted was cause Rain added him to the list.
Atlas Dwarf
2020-06-14 07:12:40 +0000 UTCThe Warden is no longer in direct contact with Lavarro, a copy of the warden is in control... maybe 99% sure Lavarro is a puppet for the next few weeks
wanderer117
2020-06-14 07:11:18 +0000 UTCI do hope rain can keep control of the town. It is in a higher-level area. The thing with the bank is what worries me. Their greed for a place like that could really make things dangerous for him.

2020-06-14 07:04:08 +0000 UTC0 is 1, 1 is 2. We must select one, but 1 is 2 ??? Everything starts from Zero so 0 must be 1, selecting 0...
2020-06-14 06:48:39 +0000 UTCWell we know he did "a few hundred" people. And there are thousands. He was only able to get everyone he had a name and face for as he specified in the "death note rules". Given his clarity boosted practically perfect memory, he probably got everyone whose name he knows. But that leaves a lot of people whose names he does not.

2020-06-14 06:22:32 +0000 UTCYeah also paling integrity would be a good one to add to his usual interface too. I'd guess that the fragmentation is super high because he's been triggering his exp daily updates at the wrong time and so frequently, plus maybe all the other interface modifications he's created, by pushing/forcing against the system until it "gives" and lets him have what he wants.

2020-06-14 06:17:49 +0000 UTCGreat chapter. So satisfying to have some real progress made in this whole barrier situation. He could just send the daughter out in order to avoid Lavarro. The thing that concerns me is soul fragmentation and core rank. That should be something he should try to add to his own display. I had hoped he would have fixed his soul in time dilation and integrated the accolades when he got out but that did not happen. Still very happy. You know as soon as he got the calculator working he typed in 58008. See you next time. Happy Fathers Day everybody.

2020-06-14 06:07:03 +0000 UTCIf Rain lets Lavarro pass the barrier will it wipe the Warden from her mind or dent access because she isn't Lavarro?

2020-06-14 05:38:31 +0000 UTCi assume she is still controlled, but the warden doesnt want that to become common knowledge. later when everyone is gone "lavarro" is going to leave towards vigilance where the warden will deal with her personally. or something along those lines.

2020-06-14 05:32:52 +0000 UTCOh hallelujah. We're finally seeing an end to the barrier arc, Rain got a month of learning to communicate with the majistraal tech and fiddle in mindspace, and Rain confirms he's not sticking around this place because it would be silly. Tallheart and Ameliah JUUST missed falling through the barrier when added to the resident list. Damn Lavarro. Speaking of, Lavarro confuses me. With what we saw last chapter, it seemed like Lavarro was totally taken over by boss warden. But she's adamantly sticking around and ignoring the plan for her to head off and face judgement. And instead of just going, "hey this isn't Lavarro anymore", she's still acting like herself. So it's not a total personality overwrite. It's like a subconscious thought worm or something?

2020-06-14 05:22:42 +0000 UTCoh man. as a software engineer this chapter brought me great joy. Its like in college when I tried to learn the characteristics of esolangs for fun or try out archaic shells to understand their design principles. Rain can teach so much to people with what he put together. The high clarity helped with remembering and background processing abstraction layers and it was so fun to see the obelisk respond!
