BAND-MAID - Awkward (4-way reaction)

I am really liking the different side of BAND-MAID.

I know it may sound odd saying that this is a different type of MAID. I know it's them, but the style of music that I have covered last Sunday and now this Sunday feel so different. It seems more light hearted and poppy, but the good kind of poppy.

I honestly feel like I have taken a walk through a beautiful scenic forest with the best kind of air.

I just love what BAND-MAID can do. They never cease to amaze...

the Japanese instruments are done with real instrument Samples

Miku is a poet of the highest order. Not many can put such lyrics to Kanami's insane songs

I love all of the versions of Awkward because they demonstrate, once again, the amazing geniuses these ladies are. Each version demonstrates a different aspect of their musical abilities to bring out the quality of the song in a different medium (or style) and yet capture the emotion of the song so well in each style. I see Juan San has already mentioned about Akane and the Cajon. Funny thought, we generally like to put labels on groups to indicate their style of music. However, with Band-Maid there are no labels, boxes, or limits to their music they are their own style, or genre, of music. Following Band-Maid’s career will be a wonderful journey to see where they take us all. Will done NittPicc, thank you for your comments.

Another great analogy of a Band Maid song that doesn't get a lot of respect. I love that you let the banter play out in the acoustic version. These ladies are so humble and genuine which is a huge part of their appeal. It would be amazing if you did a reaction to fan cams, omajinai time, and bts videos. Or maybe for Christmas, you could do a video of the acoustic concert with the band commentary turned on. We all know you love this band but you may find them even more special when they're not performing. Cheers!

Soo good. I didn't konw the Maiko version and the acustic so thank you. You are right, they never cease to amaze!! Fun thing is the bass solo in the acustic which gave me similar vibes as the bass solo in Marunouchi Sadistic..

4 for me - Alone, Corallium, Bubble and Daydreaming from this years acoustic would be nice 😁

To me, the Maiko version is a reminder of how ruthlessly the maids use musical tension. I think at least twice here they follow a buildup or a section that feels like a bridge to some progression only to drop you into nearly empty air instead. They'll give you the resolution, but you'll have to wait longer than you think for it. As for the acoustic... I've always thought that Kanami imagines her music as though it was written for an orchestra, or perhaps a pipe organ. All the voices are, to her, one single instrument. It's probably quite simple for her to rearrange their songs. But we have to keep in mind that Kanami's not the only one working on these. MISA may have written her solo herself, at the least. And then we remember that MISA isn't just some dork who came up off the streets with nothing but a bottle of Jack, a thrift store bass, and a masterclass she got one night at a crossroads - she went to the Japanese version of Berklee. So did Akane. Kanami's been playing piano since childhood. These sweet, goofy ladies are actually musical nerds of the highest order. Saiki and Miku may have no such formal education, but their talent is evident.

You asked about our favourite version of this song. I can't really choose a single one as the best; it depends on my mood. Do I want to enjoy the absolute majesty of seeing and hearing Band-Maid on stage, with their elegant chandeliers and ornately framed vertical monitors, thundering away so immaculately? Or do I want to float up to heaven wrapped in a warm blanket surrounded by Saiki's voice and swirling ethereal ancient instruments? Or do I want to relive that magical Christmas eve in 2021 (it was streamed on Christmas Day in Japan but it was still Christmas Eve in North America), where they just came out with song after amazing song in completely new and previously-unheard arrangements? In this piece, I especially love Saiki's acapella part and MISA's solo. By the way, I'm hoping they take the acoustic okyu-ji that they performed this past summer on the amazing tree-festooned stage and upload it to Band-Maid Prime - there are at least three songs from that show that I will be requesting reactions to from you! I do have to admit though, that I don't often listen to the Just Bring It album. I joined the #notacult in 2020 just after Conqueror was released, so I tend to listen to the albums that came from then and later - but I do see the earlier songs quite often in reaction videos, so that's fine by me. Thank you so much for these reactions!!! [end soliloquy]

That fine line between genius and insanity is on full display in this reaction. How do you take a vocal melody and write 4 different musical arrangements around it, with each having a soul of its own? Ask Kanami and Band-Maid. All 4 versions are just brilliant on their own. Thanks NittPicc.
