Lake Street Dive - You Go Down Smooth

If you liked Lawrence then you're gonna like this one too.

I will say that this is more low key than Lawrence, but there is room for the chill here and this one is more of what I think is considered a groovy kind of rock.

The vocalist has a tone to her voice that reminded me of Amy Winehouse which was really cool. The ensemble was a cool experience watching how they accomanied the singer with their instruments as well as their voices.

The drummer was innovative.

The bassist is hiding something...

...and the guitarist held down the fort.

Seriously. Just check this group out!

Bridget is a beast on bass. Yes, she also plays standard electric bass as well as guitar, keys, xylophone, Moog synth. She is also a composer and music teacher. Their music has a lot of jazz and RnB/Motown influence. They all met at the New England Conservatory of Music, so they have legit training behind their chops. The song was written by Mike Olson (guitar, trumpet, vocals) based on his tempestuous relationship with Gin & Tonics. The band was part of a promotional concert held by the Coen Bros and T. Bone Burnett for their 2013 film Inside Llewyn Davis (Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan, Justin Timberlake, John Goodman, Adam Driver). They performed "You Go Down Smooth"- acoustic guitar, upright bass and a single snare and cymbal.. in front of a condenser mic which seemed to bring out even more dynamics in their playing and vocals. I actually prefer that version. It's available on youtube. (btw... Jet claims that riff for the song was inspired by the opening of The Supremes - "You Can't Hurry Love", but to me it sounds more directly influenced by Iggy Pop "Lust For Life".) Request for another LSD song - "Call Off Your Dogs" https://youtu.be/OMEPgLxvNPk?si=TAhs3kCVZkS-TjO5

Yes, you got the name right! So glad you enjoyed this. Gonna send you some more from them, including one where their bassist, Bridget Kearney, absolutely shreds!
