This band is FIRE! Faulieu was not on my bingo card for bands that I think I could really get into but there is something about their sound and their groove that really bring me to a nice warm fuzzy place in my soul. I really want to delve more into their collection to see what else they have. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did!
Glad you enjoyed the song/video, one quick correction at the start, Francophile is actually pronounced 'Fran-co-phile' in a similar fashion to the currency Francs, which were used in France before they fully changed over to Euros in 2002.
Also the Band-Maid comparison in my original recommendation was to give a baseline you knew, for a relative idea of overall heaviness (though Ayano also has a very similar bass & amp setup to what Misa used for most of her career pre-Epic Narratives and Kaho often plays the same type of PRS guitar as Kanami). Faulieu are definitely more in the pop-rock vein, but with deceptive low key playing chops from all four members,
Faulieu consists of Canaco (lead vocals/rhythm guitar), Ayano (bass & backing vocals), Kaho (lead guitar & backing vocals) and Mimori (drums & backing vocals).
Fleufleu was formed in December of 2015 by Canaco & Mimori (if you look up their Soundcloud, there's some really early demos of 'Shitanonamaede Yobanaide' and 'SPICA' from 7-8yrs ago) and from what I can tell I believe they were initially signed to a management/songwriting deal as a two piece (there's live footage/photos online with several different support guitarists and bass players). Wakazaemon actually was their billed support bassist for at least a decent chunk of 2017-18, though it's difficult to find exact dates online (you'll since know her from East of Eden and Koiai, she's also Kiyoshi's replacement in Marty Friedman's touring band). The Fleufleu YT channel has existed since 2012, but I think it was originally Canaco's personal music account.
Kaho joined mid-2017 (initially as a support member before becoming permanent in August 2019) and Ayano was the last permanent member to join in January 2020. Not sure if Ayano was initially a support member also; outside of the group she's been half of duo Unwave since 2017/18.
I first saw footage of the band in a cover of Platform Syndrome by Scandal that they uploaded to YT in May 2020 (Scandal are legends of the modern Japan girl band scene you've not yet been introduced to, they've been active since 2006 with all the same members and they're still only in their mid-30s).
The band released one physical album as Fleufleu, 'Fleuraison' in February 2022 and a follow up single in the August ('Koe / Midsummer Magic') but neither gained a massive amount of traction (the album briefly hit number 15 on the Oricon daily rankings on launch). They gigged pretty heavily in support of the releases, including a bunch of co-headlining shows with TRiDENT. At the end of 2022, their agency/management 'rayznotes' (who appears to own all their publishing rights, masters and the band name) effectively told the band they were dropping them at the end of the tour, with their fans being told at a gig on 21st December 2022. The band were understandably upset when announcing this onstage (especially Canaco, according to a friend who attended the show). They played their final show as Fleufleu on 31st January 2023 and outwardly appeared to break up.
But they then re-emerged independently with the same lineup as Faulieu in March 2023. At first it seemed like a completely clean break with no song material brought across, but they've slowly re-introduced some old songs into their sets with newer arrangements (not sure if they've made an agreement with rayznotes or the new versions just count differently for publishing purposes).
Since changing the band name they've released their first album as Faulieu, 'AS IS.' in April 2024, as well as nine digital singles. Of these singles, five songs have been re-worked versions of Fleufleu songs, including Yamaigoto which you reacted to. With the new versions it's possibly a similar publishing situation to Taylor Swift's back catalogue, where you have the re-recorded 'Taylor's Version' of her older songs on streaming platforms that she actually owns.
As a good second song for YT, I'm somewhat tempted to recommend their 1st original Fleufleu MV for "薔薇 / Bara (Roses)" from 'Fleuraison'. As well as a nice showcase of the interplay within the band, it highlights the main difference in their sound since becoming independent, as most of the Fleufleu studio material had more noticeable synth/keyboard overdub contributions in the mixes from their producers: https://youtu.be/mwQDnjr4CVM?si=B04ShNVNXj5gkxwT
If you want to stick with something under the Faulieu name for now, to avoid confusion, then try checking out the recent PV for the updated arrangement of 'Shitanonamaede Yobanaide': https://youtu.be/Fe1FquuC12Q?si=UabAK5qVV783_YSV
Or if you fancy checking out something lighter then there's one of their digital only singles, 'Merry-go-Round' from August 2023. It's quite pretty & uplifting sounding with a nice contrasting middle section: https://youtu.be/UXrdCCIr58I?si=y4kQn8hy4YAWkZLb

I wonder - do they use the same live video team as Band-Maid??

Be warned! There are dozens of bands out of Japan that are not YET on your bingo card…

Kaho, lead guitar, is also involved with the Gibson/Epiphone Replays band…including Asaka (from Trident) et al. They cover a variety of anime songs.
“God Knows…” is my favorite from this lineup and possibly my favorite Asaka vocal performance!
