Ayreon - The Day That The World Breaks Down

I wasn't sure what was going to go down when I chose this reaction, but man it was so worth it!

This is what I would consider a progressive rock opera. The most interesting thing about this reaction was the music was solely composed and mostly (but not all) performed by the creator. I was so impressed by the use of major and minor tonalities as well as changes in style and feel.

I really hope you check this one out. It is worth listening to a galactic, futuristic, bluesy, progressive rock opera!

Ayreon - The Day That The World Breaks Down

Comments

Bravo! Glad you liked Ayreon. The project (not really a "band") is by Arjen Anthony Lucassen, a Dutch composer, and started in 1995 with its latest chapter in 2020 through 10 full LPs. The latest edition is from this year. Arjen composes most of the music and is a very funny guy. This kind of progressive symphonic rock is not easy to find and this project delivers it with overwhelming quality. In the comments of the video on YT, people were very kind to characterize who the collaborators are and what bands they belong to: 00:28 James LaBrie (Dream Theater) 03:10 Tommy Karevik (Kamelot, Seventh Wonder) 03:31 Tommy Rogers (Between the Buried and Me) 03:38 Simone Simons (Epica) 04:32 Nils K. Rue (Pagan's Mind) 05:30 Tobias Sammet (Avantasia, Edguy) 06:29 Hansi Kursch (Blind Guardian) 07:20 Michael Mills (Toehider) 09:00 Russell Allen (Symphony X, Adrenaline Mob) 09:30 Michael Eriksen (Circus Maximus) 12:01 Floor Jansen (Nightwish) I also found in the comments what the verse sung in binary means: "The part where Michael Mills (TH-1) sings: ''01110100 01110010 01110101 01110011 01110100 01010100 01001000 00110001'' he sings: ''trustTH1'' in binary for all you people who wanted to know" Ayreon sounds like this live: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ei4QjMN1y5g
