SAISEIGA - Illusion

This music video is pure art.

The music is art as well.

Where do I begin? The band has a dark sound and makes use of rhythmic patterns in their music. Is it like this for all their songs?

I don't even know where to start with the vocalist's voice. She has such a warm and deep voice, but then she can give a DEEP growl. I was super surpsied by this.

This is going on my yoga for musicians playlist!

The middle eastern chord progression you are talking about reminds me a lot of what some of the psychedelic/space rock bands I have listened to would play (like Ozric Tentacles or Quantum Fantay) or some of the more chilled out psychedelic electronica (like the group Shpongle). Especially Shpongle takes plenty of influences from the middle east and India (since one of the members used to make Goa Trance) , so I can totally see where you are coming from. Shpongle might be a good shout for you to begin with because one of the members sometimes plays flute and while their music is mainly electronic, their live shows have plenty of musicians helping them out and is quite a show. Not sure if it is easy to find them on youtube though. As far as this track goes, I actually think this is a weird one in their discography in the sense that it sounds very much like them but is very different from a lot of their music at the same time. It is from their first full album and I know that one (and the EP before it) was a tougher sell for me when I first heard it even though I have since become a fan without question. As I have said in my comment on the Patreon Extras post a couple of days ago, Regan is very good live and can pull all this stuff off live as well. She is really versatile, especially if you compare her stuff with Zettai Club which is more classical sounding since they were a symphonic power metal band (they experimented with different sounds though). I have a feeling you would enjoy their music as well. As far as music to check out for a meditative metal style goes, I have no clue about yoga but Ningen Isu has some pretty meditative tracks with the lead vocalists having studied Buddhism (I believe) and them being a doom metal band (among other things). I think doom metal is in general a good shout for meditative sounding metal. There is doom that is categorized as Drone Doom for a reason although that might not be very listenable for a lot of people since it can be somewhat akin to ambient music (which I personally enjoy as well) and can be very long and drawn out. Ningen Isu is without question more varied, but certainly has plenty of doom metal influences and worth checking out if you haven't already (I didn't check).

It's funny because you talked about exactly why I thought this would be a good track for you right from the beginning. I was immediately recalling your discussion on patter in terms of BAND MAIDs Influencer ... where you told us Saiki wasn't really rapping ... and then she did :p . Anyway, to me Regan is almost using her voice as a percussive instrument here, especially in the beginning. I don't think that much of the beginning is meant to be "understood" even if you spoke fluent Japanese until she gets to the clean vocals. I would call the music "Saharan" if I had to pick a term ... it definitely has that flavor. Even though all the members are extremely talented, Regan's vocals are for sure the centerpiece. I think Wakkun's guitar solo contains some sweep picking (which he does extensively in another track). I think the intro is all Katsuki's bass as I hear fingering and not picking. For other songs I'd recommend the track that was the biggest on YouTube prior to the album Nostalgia which is JUMBLE, or the biggest track off that album HANABI. You may also enjoy their latest STRANGE RAIN released just 2 months ago. All of their music is very different ... there is nothing "cookie cutter" about it. I enjoyed this reaction a lot :) .

At 4:07. I swear that looks like Saiki in the top left, and is that Taylor Swift?
