Bocchi the Rock, Ep. 1 - A Rolling Bocchi

Today I discovered that I am Bocchi. 100%

Do you suffer from performance or social anxiety?

p.s. I laughed my ass off at the point where they did the false ending - both at the show itself and your reaction :)

I suppose it shouldn't be a great surprise that a community that interacts online to find like-minded individuals who share their interests are also more than likely to be mostly introverts! :) I personally was never able to take any music exams or perform because I was too anxious - but I'm trying my best to give my kids the confidence/encouragement I never had so that they are able to confront it much better than I did.

Home Gnome

I totally understand this. I’m glad I had teachers in my life that pushed/forced me to do performances as a young flutist. I can perform, but speaking is hard. Lol

NittPicc

This is a fantastic Anime and so glad you are re-acting to it. I am a 60 year old Introvert that NEVER had the guts to do anything other than live Vicariously thru others, not meant to be a sob story just owning my own inadequacies. Having said that I do try and socialize but only am only able to respond not initiate once I am spoken to I then relax enough to continue the conversation.

I plan on completing the series and possibly starting a new one while I am at it. I have been told to check out Sound Euphonium and I am curious about it!

NittPicc

I'm happy to be here and experience it with all of you! ...even if I am admitting I am a nervous wreck. Hah!

NittPicc

πŸ˜…πŸ˜…πŸ˜… So all introverts are here, huh? Why are we like this?!?!

NittPicc

STOP! That's so cute and so accurate! I love that the creator actually based the locations off of real locations around Tokyo. This really feeds my dream of wanting to go someday. I have wanted to visit Japan since I was in my teens. This can satiate the need for now!

NittPicc

Thank you for all this! I can't wait to look out for the pun versions of band names. And that's so cool that Aoyama actually learned to play guitar to sing the opening theme. I wish I could sing in japanese better. I can after multiple times hearing the phoenetics over and over again, but I wouldn't mind singing these songs while playing guitar. I am decent on guitar...but I am not sure if I am ready to share my "chord only" playing ability. πŸ˜…

I would DIE for pink hair. Or purple. Or blue! I have always wanted to dye my hair a different color. I forgot that back in my college days I wanted to dye my hair a natural looking red. I did some research and bought what I needed and then my hair came out FIRE ENGINE RED. It was...scary, but cool? Hah! Maybe I'll post it on here sometime. ...and you are a lucky soul. I appreciate people like you because you're the kind of soul that comes up to people like me to say "hi" so I will start talking. Lol.

NittPicc

I get that. When I sang in choir, especially solos, I told myself I was the character I was singing for or about. My flute and a music stand helps me feel like a whole other person. I don't feel like I'm me. It may sound silly but it feels similar to like how Beyonce calls herself "Sasha Fierce" on stage. I've been told on stage that I look comfortable and like I'm supposed to be there. On the inside for the first piece or movement however? I'm silently screaming inside. I love being the center of attention most of the time, but I will be screaming inside when I am doing it. And sweating...profusely.

NittPicc

I am watching it off a website right now. I used to have Crunchyroll but haven't restarted my subscription. I was trying to avoid another subscription service and the fear of having the screen be black when recording, but I am sure there is a work around.

NittPicc

I've heard of them before and have seen snippets but haven't seen a full performance. I feel like a fish out of water sometimes because I am a flutist who loves marching band. I auditioned for drum corps when I was in college but never got to march even though I got a call back. It was too expensive to afford at the time.

NittPicc

I honestly wouldn't mind diving into it. It honestly looks freakin' sick!

NittPicc

Aaaand Kanami ( our beloved Mincho) took up guitar cause she wanted to be popular!!!

Maybe Zenshu next, Po? πŸ•ŠοΈ

It's so much fun watching you reaction on anime. You must be committed to the music. You might as well check out on Kyoto Tachibana marching band. They were just performing band marching in the US recently. Worth for your reaction

I love bocchi, I don't know which website you're using but if you want the best subtitles go to Crunchyroll, they generally have them in a way that is less confusing when many character speak at the same time or when there is translated text in the screen.

Completely separately from the info dump, with regards to performance anxiety when playing, I usually get nerves before playing live but once I start I'm usually fine. If anything as a bit of an introvert I feel more confident 'hiding' behind a guitar when performing or being within the bass section back when I did chamber choir. Not a strong enough singer to take lead vocals, but even the idea of singing live by myself or performing without a musical instrument feels slightly unnerving by contrast.

Andrew Hellebrand

Nice! Now I can't help but imagine you with pink hairs...sorry!!!! No social anxiety for me, maybe i'm lucky in this. Anyway, now i'm curious to read some of the original manga....

Sawzar

Gonna do my best to do a small info dump that avoids plot spoilers. All Kessoku Band songs vocally are performed by the VAs, the song playing over the outro was 'Distortion!!' written by Maguro Taniguchi of Kana-Boon for the show. The musicians for all songs on the first album/playing as Kessoku Band for the first series are as follows (with the guitarists also responsible for the arrangements as stated): Osamu Hidai – drums (all tracks) YΕ«ichi Takama – bass (all tracks) Akkin – guitar (all tracks), arrangement (5–6) Ritsuo Mitsui- guitar (all tracks), arrangement (1–4, 7–14) One thing you might pick up on as watch the show is that there's lots of pun versions of actual band names used either as posters/flyer or referenced talking about more famous groups (if you're familiar with the WackDonalds concept to avoid copyright in anime then this might seem similar). The live house Starry in the show is based on the real venue Shelter, located in Shimokitazawa. Whilst none of the VAs really played instruments before doing the show, Bocchi seiyu Yoshino Aoyama actually did a separate YT promotion project alongside the show called 'Road to Guitar Hero' where she learnt to play guitar, eventually learning and performing a slightly simplified version of the anime's opening theme, "Seishun Complex" with a support band at Shelter for the finale. This project was then extended to learning "Korogaru Iwa, Kimi ni Asa ga Furu" (an Asian Kung Fu Generation cover, which she also sings lead vocals on) with the goal to perform it at the Kessoku Band Live: Kōsei on 26th May 2023.

Andrew Hellebrand

Love this anime (most introverts do) and glad you're watching it with us. From what I remember from the comments section (before Crunchyroll stopped all comments), all the music is performed by the voice actors (not sure about the instruments, but for sure the singing) and most of the ending credits are different with a different singer. Also, a lot of the outdoor scenes are actual places around Tokyo and the Starry venue is a real place. The manga author would create an image for each chapter heading that has something to do with the music scene in Japan. For chapter 19 she used a drawing that is almost identical to Band-Maid - here's an image of chapter 19 header and the image from Band-Maid's official song "Domination" - https://imgbb.com/gDDcbV5
