BAND-MAID - Bubble (revisted w/ music score!)

I thank Russell for these scores. I can't believe they have been sitting silently on my music stand waiting to be used!

This was a fun experience!

3 guitar parts?

...a synth part I didn't even really realize was there?

Misa's slaps to pick?

...AKANE abusing that double pedal?

The writing is a little harder to see with the shorthand in the score, but man was this worth it!

Also, below I have attached the translated front page so you can read what they suggested to do to play this piece to the best of your ability!

I first noticed Akane doing those weird "stutter" runs on the bass in Domination, but after I heard it there, I started hearing it everywhere. She uses a ton of double bass when she plays, but it's hardly ever a straight run, it's all alien stutter rhythms or fills, or she'll go hard for like, three seconds on a final chorus or a solo and then switch patterns. When you look at the prog and jazz drummers she's got competition but she's leaving 95% of rock bands in her dust.

NittPicc, I loved your comment, “…these scores. I can’t believe they were sitting silently …waiting to be used.” You can say they (the scores) scored. (Sorry, I couldn’t resist.) This is one of my favorite especially because to the rhythms and the guitars. It makes the whole song so interesting.

Hello miss NittPicc. I wait impatiently for Band-Maid Sundays. I am making a non Band-Maid request. I just heard this group of musicians and immediately knew this was something you would appreciate. The band is a fluid group of musicians named Snarky Puppy. The music is jazz/jazz fusion/funk and the kitchen sink. The song is Lingus. It is a live performance. It is over 10 minutes long, but you will not be disappointed. I am your Patreon supporter because of Band-Maid, but I had to let you know about this group.

I love the feel Alan’s does in here. That arrhythmic feel sends me for a good loop! I haven’t checked out Balance yet, so I look forward to it! And yeah…Miku’s guitar in this one is my favorite one. Besides her cute acoustic with the heart…🥹

NittPicc

Thank you! 🙏 This makes me happy! As a former “music appreciation” course lecturer for a college, this comment makes me feel like I’m doing something good. The best part is that I’m covering music that is given to me and just so happens to enjoy. Lol. No shade to the classical composers though. I still love them. 😹

NittPicc

I meant to type Band-Maid not Band- Main.

By the way, Band-Main recently released a video of " Bubble" from their acoustic okyu-ji. These ladies rock even on their acoustic sets.

Princess NittPicc, I'm SO GLAD you discovered the score for more Band-Maid songs. Your breakdown and analysis of the music from my favorite band is both unique and enlightening. As a non-musician, every reaction and analysis to their music is a personal course on music and on music appreciation.

Bubble has been played live a considerable number of times (35), even with various arrangements (this is very typical of the band, always giving a little extra twist to the kaleidoscope to make everything seem new again). The latest acoustic version is beautiful. https://www.setlist.fm/stats/bandmaid-33c79405.html For me this is probably one of the most original "arrhythmic" rhythms used by Akane (maybe together with the one from Balance). By the way: Miku probably has here in her hands the most beautiful guitar of all time...

Another great Band Maid song that gets better with age. So happy to see NittPicc get giddy over her "candy!" Scores!! Thank you NittPicc-chan for another really fun and informative rundown!

If H is hammer-on, then I'd say P is probably pull-off?

Glenner7

Nice one! It's common sense now (at least for me), that a Band Maid song must be given a second, third, forth...(i suggest at least five, one for each member) listen!!!

Sawzar

Well…it’s coming! I’m so excited since I have the score!

NittPicc

I may be mistaken but I do not recall you ever reacting to GLORY ... one of my personal favorite anime tracks from our MAIDs. The song was used as the second ending theme for the second season of the anime Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS and it was released on the same day as BUBBLE ;) .

The music in Bubble paints a very complex experience, which I feel was Kanami's intention. The entire song makes me feel like someone trying to run from something, only to realize that no matter where or how fast they run, that something only gets closer.

God…yes! Every time I hit record it feels like all musical knowledge leaves me.

NittPicc

On the drums, I think the word you are thinking of is "arhyrhmatic." Akane is a master of making a song feel what she wants your heart to feel underneath all the "facade" the other instruments and vocals are representing.
