Rumkicks - Proud of Madness

I am glad this was sent to me. This is what punk music is all about!

Musically it isn't highly complex, but there is something else that makes this important to music appreciation and history.
Somewhere in music history, there is a time where music was used to bring awareness to abuse happening in the system or talking about topics that others choose to gloss over.

In the Bob Dylan video I posted here, I talk about how he was one of the first main stream musicians to do such a thing. Bobby, I would consider folk, was so punk rock. Lol.

This song brings awareness to a topic that many people don't want to talk about. I love that they are using what they love to do to tell others that they are not alone.

I love this, and the little punk girl deep down inside of me approves!

I don't know that much about Korean rock, but I know Otoboke Beaver's labelmates "Drinking Boys And Girls Choir" are a Korean punk band as well (they are actually on a UK label). I personally prefer my punk a little faster/chaotic/rawer (like Otoboke Beaver), but I can certainly enjoy the albums I own by both "Drinking Boys And Girls Choir" and Rumkicks when I am in the mood and I am certainly happy that I picked them up. If you enjoy Rumkicks you might enjoy "Drinking Boys And Girls Choir" as well as I find them somewhat in the same style. Also, they actually toured with Otoboke Beaver both in the EU and in the US as far as I know.

I like that song too. I think my favorite is "Nino" a song about one of Bela's cats. it's very Punk!

I like the song "Oh!" ... they are considered an American band but you would not know by seeing them ;) .

NittPicc, have you heard of The Linda Lindas? They are a young, all girl punk band from So Cal. Imagine the Ramones mating with the Go-Gos and you get the Linda Lindas. I too am a punk fan, and I really like what they are doing! They have a few videos of their own as well as a couple great covers, too. I love their songs and a video they did as a promo for the movie "Moxie" where played covers of "Rebel Girl" and "Big Mouth" in someone's back yard. They are so much fun to watch and listen to. Oh! - Growing Up - Talking to Myself are official videos. Racist, Sexist Boy is also very cool.

Punk is always very linear musically. Punk always delivers a message. Unlike you, I was around in the mid 70's when punk got its start and had just started to listen to music, so it was part of my formative years. Being a Detroit native I am proud of the fact that In America, the bands who invented punk rock came from southern Michigan, like MC5 and Iggy and the Stooges, although NY is typically credited with acts like Patti Smith, and the Ramones and the infamous club CBGB. Anyway, enough of that. Rumkicks was formed in 2019 and considering the genre, have a decent sized following. Just like Rolling Quartz most of their acceptance comes from outside their home market. We will eventually get into a band or two (DIH specifically) that was stubborn about staying in their home market of Korea ... and despite being musically superior ... failed. Rumkicks first release was an EP with only 4 songs on it, "Brutality" in 2020. The second release "Born Rude" 2023 is a full length album. Unfortunately this song PROUD of MADNESS, only appears on YouTube. HOWEVER, this song can be found on a special CD put out in 2022 just for Rumkicks first UK tour. MAD PRIDE is a world-wide movement that gets zero play in the US. Apparently we don't like to talk about it either. It was actually started in Canada ... Toronto to be specific, in 1993. I believe the "white bed" line is in reference to a bed push that typically ends each festival. The participants are helped out into the street on their hospital white beds, then pushed along parade style to celebrate their existence. MAD PRIDE did not invent the bed push as it has been used by other charities. The band has undergone some member changes and most significantly Seeun (blue hair and braces) left the band in 2022. The band has traveled and toured in some unusual places in its 5 year existence (like China and Indonesia). You can find CDs for purchase at BANDCAMP. Their music is self published. The band is currently playing in Korea but I do know they plan another EU trip this summer.
