BAND-MAID - Manners, BLACK HOLE (Official Live Video)

NOTE: I was (and still am) taking some cough medicine that apparently made me seem like I am lost, but I swear I am okay. I'm sorry if I seem a little loopy.

In this video I was NOT expecting these styles of music from these ladies.

Maybe it's just me, but both of these songs have a failry stark difference in style if I compare them to the other songs I have now listened and reacted to. Now...as someone who likes to believe that they have no genre barrier, I was pleasently surprised.

Manners has such a weight to it that made me feel like I was in my grunge era. The lyrics though didn't reflect that though. These lyrics are super uplifting and are something I would need to get me through the week. Lol.

Black Hole takes a whole new turn in what I like to call hardcore punk. This was blazing fast and in your face, but Saiki's voice was like a clear voice of reason through all of it. I was just so blown away!

This is proof that BAND-MAID can play in ANY genre. mic drop

I read, an interview of Kanami on ‘Black Hole’ (I can’t site the source I would have to look for it) in which this was to represent the chaos of COVID. Unfortunately that time was hard on Kanami especially being away from her band mates. I think (this is me) that ‘Black Hole’ was the void each of us were experiencing being apart from other people in our daily life.

Manners is top tier Band Maid! ♥

The genre that Band Maid is, depends on what song you are listening to. Manners is like groove rock or stoner rock. Black Hole is like speed metal-punk. They could probably do a great Bluegrass song if they wanted.

Rick

You're right, Juan, and of course what did they do? They started the show with Black Hole.

Oh I and as I'm typing this the Maid's are preparing to do their Day Of Maid show in Tokyo, reviving it for this year after a 2 year absence. The Day Of Maid shows are somewhat legendary in Band Maid lore, as the Maid's see this as THEIR day and REALLY bring an extra intensity to these shows, and these are reports from long time Band Maid fans who all have reported the Maid's really, really "Just Bring It" of these Day Of Maid shows......seems they really take the day seriously :-)

Great react NittPicc, just joined the Patreon club so this is very cool :-) Glad you enjoyed Miku's vocal sound effects on Manners (one of my favorite parts!!), the Miku Sound Machine (as it's called) came into prominence on the Conqueror album where there was no Miku song but she's all over the album with vocal sound effects....It's fabulous. Black Hole is banger and an exclamation point to the Unseen World, kind of a reminder after wandering all over the Genre board that they can still bang it out with the best of them...btw, check Rinne from Conqueror almost a companion song to Black Hole.

There's a lot of R&B in Manners throughout, too, if you think about it. To say nothing of the ending. In Black Hole, there's some ska in there. As we Madiacs often say... the genre is Band-Maid. What they remind you of is EVERYTHING. :) Oh, and by the way, you said to turn them up... yes... like some of the best music out there, Band-Maid is better when LOUD!

Mike Holmes

I'm sure you already know this, but I'll just put it out there... "About Us" was a letter that they wrote to their fans. As in, about their relationship with their fans.

AMEN!!!!!

Princess Nittpicc, I do hear a little bit of that congestion in your voice. Please get better soon. I love reaction to Band-Maid music. It reminds me of my first few times of listening to these SO TALENTED young women. Manners/Black Hole was one of my early favorites and it still is. These two songs together immediately shows their musical versatility. I swear Black Hole will leave you sweating at the end!

Bill Hallisey

Cool reaction! I'm glad you were able to pull the end of your video out from the black hole... You had me in stitches at the start of Black Hole - I thought your chair was going to spin you out into orbit! I believe the maids identified this tempo to Akane as "Hell". So, you may have heard that Band-Maid has a song called About Us (which many of us are counting on you discovering soon), but it has seemed to me since Manners came out that it could just as easily have been entitled "About Us", as it tells the story of their aims and their progress so far. On the Limited Edition version of the Unseen World album, there are two discs, with one representing the progress so far and the other representing moving forward, and the same version of Manners appears on each disc. As you said, constant surprises are the keystone of Band-Maid songs.

Blackhole is 220 BPM, you were absolutely correct 👍
