Oingo Boingo - Insanity

Was anyone going to tell me that Danny Elfman was the creator of this band? Like...THE Danny Elfman?!?

This man is a genius. His compositions can be heard in the Batman, Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, The Nightmare Before Christmas and many more. More than likely you've heard his works at some point.

I really liked this. The style of music, the theme of the stage and the topic being sung about and the activity on stage was fun to watch!

I definitely need more of Oingo Boingo in my life!

Great NittPicc selection (lol!!) but one the GREAT live show I've ever seen was Oingo Boingo at the Greek Theater in Berkeley in the mid-80's WHAT A FUNNNNN SHOW!!! They had the multiple percussionist and the 3-piece horn section dressed in zoot suits. It was one of the most energetic and just plain fun shows I'd been to, the crowd was a sea of dancing humans and waving arms. I was a sweaty mess when it was over and it was great, lol :-)

There was also a Police song from Ghost in the Machine in the movie, but they were under contract with A&M, so IRS couldn't put it on the soundtrack. Also, contains a rare R.E.M. gem from their early days, Wind Out.

I was a (very early) 80's kid so I knew of them quite well. Someone else mentioned Mtv, and yes, they had videos that played frequently there ... namely Weird Science and Dead Man's Party are the quintessential Oingo Boingo tunes from the era. Weird Science however usually conjures Thomas Dolby's song "She Blinded me with Science"... which has nothing to do with the movie :p . The Dolby tune was used as the theme song in the pilot episode of The Big Bang Theory but then discarded in favor of the song by Barenaked Ladies. How did I get this far off topic :p . I was a rebel kid too ... long hair, ear ring, metal head, partier ... and was fortunate that I worked in a field that accepted a lot of that even tho it was filled with "professionals". I didn't really reach my "conformist period" until about 2005. Now I am just a boring old guy that listens to strange Japanese music ;) .

Don't worry, you fit into society just fine. For what it's worth, the Band Maid community absolutely adores you. Keep doing what you are doing the way you want to do it. I will say, be it right or wrong, it's not easy to get the good jobs in this world if you have too many tats and piercings. Not putting it down, but that's just the reality. Maybe someday that will change. I think to some degree we all struggle with trying to maintain our individuality in a buttoned-down world. But there are other ways to exercise your individuality and you seem to be doing just fine with that! Whatever the case, don't let the idiots get you down! NittPicc, you Rock!!

If I remember right, Oingo Boingo played at a party in the movie "Back to School" starring Rodney Dangerfield and Robert Downey Jr. Great, funny movie!

I hesitated to tell you that Danny was the singer and leader of this group, but I thought it would be more fun if you discovered it yourself ^^. From memory, they were formed in 1980 (well a little earlier but the name Oingo Boingo is from 80), until 1995, the date of this farewell concert. For the record, Tim Burton was a fan of the group, before collaborating with Danny and that's probably what took Danny on the road we know (even if he appeared in films notably by his brother like Forbidden Zone and that Oingo Boingo was on the soundtrack of other films). But to tease you a little and join Band Maid, since they are two of my favorite groups, Oingo Boingo is for me, rock, because we are going to have more hard rock songs, other punk, ska ect ect, they explored different genres, all while keeping their identity. Because here, it's the opening of the concert, and the horn section has not yet come on stage, nor Danny on guitar for that matter. Another point that brings OB and BM together is that if I had to choose songs that I like from both discographies, I would choose almost all of them every time. As for the discussion about not being like everyone else... I'm an artist, I'm queer and have tastes that are generally not mainstream, so I know that very well too lol.

Cool piercings.

Oingo Boingo was never a really popular band back in the 80s. They didn't get a whole lot of airplay back then, nor do I remember them ever having a video that played on MTV. However, my younger sister (she was a lot cooler than me) turned me on to them and the likes of them, RHCP, Violent Femmes, U2 and Adam Ant in their very early days. Danny was always on soundtracks even back then. Weird Science and Bachelor Party (very early Tom Hanks comedy) I remember.
