Varijashree Venugopal - Chasing the Horizon ft. Hamilton de Holanda and Victor Wooten

Holy SMOKES!

I didn't know what to expect when this was suggested to me, but I was sold when I saw that VICTOR WOOTEN was in this. I couldn't pass it up. not prepared for the mixture of Indian carnatic style music fusion with two guest artists, Hamiltion de Holanda and Victor Wooten.

The unison pitch and rhythm sent this over the edge for me. It's impressive to do such a thing especially with voice. The virtuosity of Holanda on the bandolim is impressive to behold.

TLDR...WATCH THIS VIDEO!

I am going to look at all of these albums and songs. I have to. It is too good to pass up! …and isn’t it amazing how a language barrier can exist, but when music gets involved, we all can speak the same language? This is why I love it so much. 🥰🥰🥰

This is new to me. I like it. Thanks for the intro.

I joined you for this video because of seeing Victor Wooten's name. This was a pretty cool video, and yes, it ended too soon! I saw Bela Fleck and the Flecktones live in Montreal in the 90s - Victor Wooten was amazing - he played two electric basses at a time (one was on a stand). Jaw meet floor!

Thank you for taking my suggestion. You reacted as I expected you would. You brought up Bela Fleck, another track from Vari's album is "Ranjani" that features Bela, as well as Michael League and some Konnakol thrown in. Another standout from the album is "Harivaa Jhari", the music video is a stunner. The official videos are on the GroundUP NY YouTube channel. A brilliant album. Another of Vari's skills is as a bansuri player. Here is a bit her playing and singing. https://youtu.be/zxttUYGa0kE?si=kC5Emzri4lYjuX1j Hamilton de Holanda is fantastic. I suggest anything off his album "Flying Chicken". The title track is fun. If you haven't checked out Bela Fleck's latest Grammy winning album "As We Speak", I can't recommend it highly enough. Features Edgar Meyer on bass, Zakir Husain on tabla, and Rakesh Chaurasia on bansuri. I saw them perform it live last year and it was amazing. Yes, Wooten is amazing live with the Flecktones. What you said about getting out of our musical comfort zones is so important, and impactful. I saw a short snippet of one of the members of the amazing Silk Road Ensemble, which is made up of musicians from all over the world. He is a tabla player, and thought mostly as a classical Indian musician. When he first got together with the ensemble, there were serious language barriers. However, when they started playing, the connections formed, and the similarities between the musical ideas took over, and they learned to communicate on the deeper human level that music can offer.

That was fun, had a flashback to when I was very young and listening to the radio at night with my parents and Ella Fitzgerald would come on., it was mesmerizing, just like this artist. Because you mentioned Victor Wooten, you might be interested in an extremely talented group of young kids who just released a cover of MUSE's "Hysteria" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2-U3C2fiAL8 They also got together to record Boston's "Piece of Mind" this past Saturday (it's also on "ellenplaysbass" YT channel). These are six young kids (youngest is a 9 year old guitarist prodigy), 11 year old Ellen playing bass (is friends wtih Victor Wooten and Bootsy Collins), amazing lead singer Vinya (13 years old), 14 year old drumming prodigy from Japan (she moved to LA 2 years ago with her family), Yoyoka (she's ranked as one of the 500 best drummers in the world by DrummerWorld when she was 11). These kids are keeping rock alive. Do a YT reaction as they deserve the exposure for keeping the candle burning.
