Incidents Tokyo - Proof of Eternal Absence

The mixture of genre's here really threw me for a loop here!

It was like I was going to listen to a jazz style performance, and then BAM! The pop rock style shines through during the chorus.

The singer has a way of manipulating her voice to have some edge to her sound. I loved hearing her being able to change her vocal tone color.
The instrumentalists...yo! They are so freakin' sick! The bassist was killin' it and the pianist! My goodness! I could listen to this group improv all day if they did!

If you like jazz, I would recommend Senri Kawaguchi (jazz drummer), she has a whole (like The Jazz Avengers, which most people would recommend), but since you are a flutist, I would recommend 坐音 ZAON. They are not known as it was a one album project until now, but I think you will love them. I also love Miku Yonezawa (who is also in the Jazz Avengers), who is a tenor sax player. For a great example of them both playing together (not at The Jazz Avengers), you can check out RAGING SPUR / Senri Kawaguchi Band 川口千里バンド / 2023.01.06 @BLUES ALLEY JAPAN All of the Jazz Avengers members projects are worth checking out, but I will leave it at this for now. But those two are my favourites. Senri has been my favourite drummer from before I got into Japanese rock/metal.

As others have said, Sheena Ringo is a bit of a musical chameleon and has done almost every style/genre across her 25yrs of being a professional musician. In her early years she had a wild, almost dangerous rock type persona that was a big inspiration for a bunch of artists including Ado and Aina the End. But this should be more about Tokyo Jihen (Incidents), that she formed in 2003 when getting burnt out from the pressures of her first phase of being a solo artist. This is the Phase 2 lineup that solidified in 2005 after the original guitarist and keys player left the band. From this lineup both Ukigmo (guitar/vocals) and Ichiyo Izawa (keys/vocals/guitar) also front their own bands and Seiji Kameda (bassist) is a prolific producer who mentored Sheena in her early solo career (for many years she'd refer to him as Kameda-sensei in interviews). A possible reason for you hearing the homage to the Bond theme in the melody is that this song was also used for a Detective Conan anime movie, so a noire-esque theme would tie-in with the required vibes. The video itself references many of the band's past videos, outfits and artwork as it's partly meant to symbolise their re-activation after a long separation/hiatus (literally 8yrs between gigs from 29th Feb '12 to 29th Feb '20). Ukigmo's guitar here is basically a tweaked Telecaster in the shape of a Vox Phantom (a quirky design that was used a lot by Brian Jones of The Rolling Stones back in the 60s). He has multiple variations of this model with different pickup configurations and also has a pink paisley flying-v shaped Telecaster that's rather unique.

I strongly second the motion!!

Great reaction. This is a tame performance by singer Sheena Ringo, her live shows are the stuff of legend and if you continue to seek out her music, you'll see why she had such an impact on a young Miku. See her song "Crime and Punishment" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ViqPBSUt59g (don't post it to YT, instant strike) and then listen to Ado's cover of the song.

Shiina Ringo is a songwriter, composer, singer, rock legend, multi-instrumentalist. She wrote this song and many others. She is a big idol for Ado, she even wrote a song for Ado, which Ado performed for the feature film. She recently wrote a song and sang it with Atarashii Gakko. All the musicians of this group are famous producers, for example, the keyboard player is the producer of Atarashi Gakko

Oooh Tokyo Jihen!, one of my absolute favorite bands. Extraordinary quality, originality in abundance and an overwhelming presence on stage. I recommend any of their live shows, they are wonderful. And of course its leader and singer (also guitarist, composer, arranger and national icon) Sheena Ringo, one of Miku Kobato's inspirations, one of her reasons for making a musical career. Whenever I see Sheena Ringo on stage I wonder, I like to think, if this beguiling animal presence was what she was looking for in Saiki. Not only a rocker voice but a captivating demeanor. Something the rest of the four girls, to cute or to shy, didn't have. BTW: speaking of crossed admirations... bassist Seiji Kameda is an important music producer in Japan... and a fan of Band Maid. There are circles that close beautifully. https://www.reddit.com/r/BandMaid/comments/17vr3yr/saiki_and_misa_interviewed_by_seiji_kameda_on/

Welcome to the world of Sheena Ringo! Next you need to dive into her solo work. For a glimpse of her vocal range, the official live video of “Life Is Full Of Dreams”. For her most dramatic live performance, “Crime and Punishment”. Which Ado has covered. For more Tokyo Jihen…my favorite song is “The Terrible Adults” (official live). Just note that whatever Sheena Ringo/Tokyo Jihen song you listen to, it’s just one corner of her vast musical mind. She goes from rock to jazz to electronic to mid-century pop to experimental to ??? Plus her vast array of fashion choices is always interesting.
