Wagakki Band - Queen of the Night

I learned that a "Queen of the Night" is a flower that nocturnally blooms and wilts before sunrise. How can such a pretty flower have such a sad existence? I guess now's not the time to existential...!

This one is pure beauty. As usual the misxture of traditional and modern instruments makes for a whole other experience, but besides that what truly shines is the style here. The lullaby-esque feel with some a warm embrace by our singer's voice makes for such a lovely experience.

...I will say, I was drawn to the shakuhachi so many times. His playing is just hypnotic!

Totally agree. This tiny, stubborn and passionate woman (Yuko), on stage really shines, and makes you feel her presence, and often entrances you. Riccardo Muti, the orchestra director, once said 'Music is not understanding, music is rapture'. Think this applies well here, don't you think?

Hey NittPicc, always love hearing your analysys on songs. Discovered Wagakki couple years ago, and immediately fell in love: they also led me to discover Band Maid and Japanese music (let's say started with WB). When i started watching your reactions on YT i though 'Wooow, this nice lady has to listen to Wagakki Band cause it a perfect match!!', and gladly you're here (thank you). Request: Nichiro Chouchou both studio version and Live (there are lives with subtitles, the lirycs are quite interesting and add deepness to WB'songs, once you know. Normally i find studio version kind of restricting in case of Wagakki (don't know why, find the lives are eploding inside me, at least to my ear), but for this particular song the studio version has a mesmerizing fading outro i didn't find in the live (which is also great). Also is one of these song you close your eyes and let the music carry you somewhere else...

I love the graceful movements that Suzuhana Yuuko makes with her Mai-Ogi (the Sensu fan). It perfectly complements this beautiful song.

It's a shame that they are going on extended hiatus at the end of the year, but I understand. Still trying for a ticket in November, but my avenues are drying up quickly. Thanks NittPicc!

I want to catch them while on layover in Japan. The Maids are also on my wish list! Being in the audience of a Japanese venue must be incredible! I sent you a link to a Beni Ninagawa (samisen) solo piece here. I hope you enjoy it!

Agree on Yuka being a really special singer and performer. She's extremely intelligent, plays the piano well. Sings and dances in traditional Japanese style so well. Fan, umbrella, SWORD dance..... Simply special.

I'm a bassist and Dai (shakuachi player) is the star of this song for me too ๐Ÿ˜ and I don't think there is a word existing in any known or unknown language to describe Yuko's vocals here, she is one of a kind. I hope they will be back from their hiatus quick (scheduled to start on December 31st but they also said they will be back) because as far as I'm concerned it would be a crime against music to not get anymore music coming from them ๐Ÿ˜ข
