Coheed and Cambria - Key Entity Extraction I: Domino the Destitute

Like I've said before, I have heard of this band before, but I never looked into them much. The reason for that is unknown to me. It could be that I was chest deep into college that I didn't have much time for anything other than my studies and classical musical literature.

...needless to say, I was living under a "classical" rock, so much so, that I missed out on this band!

I was very surprised by this band and need to hear more!

Coheed and Cambria - Key Entity Extraction I: Domino the Destitute

Thanks for doing my suggestion! You're right, Coheed and Cambria are all about the story! I'd describe them overall as Progressive Rock, but they cover a lot of different styles over the course of their albums. And all of their albums (except one) are concept albums, set in a Sci-fi universe written by their frontman Claudio Sanchez (Vocals, Guitar) that creates an overarching story/universe they call "The Amory Wars". Along with the albums, the story is told via a series of Graphic novels and hardcover books, these days usually included as part of a special edition of the album. For the story of this specific song, you pretty much got the gist of it! The story is about two brothers, Domino (Champion Boxer) and his brother, Chess (the one with the wife in the video). Domino's early success as a boxer draws the attention of a mob boss, who offers him money and fame if he joins his gang. Domino agrees, and starts doing jobs for the mob boss, who funds his boxing and supplies him with drugs and steroids to help him win matches. This alienates him with his brother as he becomes a ruthless mobster. One match, Domino goes down in an upset knockout, which triggers a spiral in his boxing career. At his lowest point, the mob boss offers him one last shot at redemption: an armored car robbery, offering him a generous share of the take. In an effort to repair their relationship, Domino recruits Chess to help, since he also needed the money. Unfortunately for the brothers, the robbery attempt goes horribly wrong, and Chess is shot and killed. Devastated by the remorse over what he's done, Domino then takes his own life. What makes this story even WILDER is that this is a story within a story. The main narrative of the album is centered around Sirius Amory, who is a scientist exploring a spatial phenomenon known as The Keywork. He manages to enter the anomaly, discovering among other things that it is full of the restless souls of the dead (basically: it's purgatory). Sirius finds out about Domino because Domino's restless spirit tries to possess Sirius in an attempt to use him to get back to the land of the living. This is the first of many "Key Entities" he encounters on his journey (hence the first part of the song title) . Crazy, right? Anyway...๐Ÿ˜… Glad you enjoyed and I plan on giving you some more suggestions! Let me know if you have preferences of longer vs shorter songs. Their long stuff really shows the storytelling, but they have some great short songs too!
