BAND-MAID - Sense (3-way reaction)

I apologize for this one being so long!

Every. Version. Sounds. DIFFERENT!

The studio version was great as is, but the live version was completely amped up. Live Maid = BEST MAID.

...but yo. That white room. OMG. The clarity of sound and being able to see what the Maids are doing. AKANE'S FOOTWORK! HELLO?!?!

Anyway, I'll let the video do the talking.

Kanami, the humble, cute, genius of Band-Maid. Maybe others can either verify, or correct, that (as Vladimir Chupin said) Kanami went to classical musicians to learn how compose the opening. And then Kanami WRITES the opening. These ladies never cease to amaze!

Kanami conducting an orchestra! That would be an epic sight!

From the interview: "Saiki: One of the things that we took a lot of care with was the intro, which features an orchestra. Originally, we had the song start with the sound of the band, but we received a request from the producers, so we changed the intro to a really majestic orchestral intro. Kobato: It was our first time really using an orchestra in a BAND-MAID song, so at first, I was a bit nervous. I was like, “How’s it going to turn out, po?” But when I heard the final cut, it felt really original, but it also had all of the great qualities of a BAND-MAID song. I love it, po! Saiki: Through this song, we found out that our music goes really well with an orchestra, so we just might use an orchestra again in some later songs. Kobato: That’s right, po. The heavy feel of the orchestra came through even more than I expected, so I was like “We need to use that again sometime.”

I've been impressed with Akane's footwork since I noticed her crazy kick drum patterns in Domination. At some point she seems to have perfected the heel-toe double kick technique that many metal drummers use. Great hi-hat control too. That's on top of actually remembering all the fills and changes she has to play, of course. She always speaks humbly about her ability and the amount of practice she needs to improve, but I'm convinced she could play tech death if she wanted.

With all this classical/orchestral talk, a vision came to me. Imagine a 2h okyuji, with symphonic orchestra like Metallica did in the past. It might be over work for Kanami which surely want to take some control over it, but imagining the sound, especially if we add some traditional japanese to it like in Band Maiko, that would be glorious.

I see Charles Coleman has already commented on the making of the Sense mv, but in case you missed that one, there is a behind the scenes making of the Sense music video on Band=Maid Prime.

From an interview about this song, Kanami said that the producers of the anime wanted an orchestral opening. The anime, "Platinum End", went it was released got a lot of new fans, reading the comments at the end of episode 1 were filled with comments about how great the ending song was and who was the band. It generated a lot of new fans and propelled Sense into the number 1 spot for fastest song to reach one million views on YT. Here's an updated list: As of Sept. 5th #1 - Unleash!!!!! - 17 days #2 - Sense - 28 days #3 - Show Them - 29 days #4 - Protect You - 38 days #5 - Influencer - 42 days

No one can ever say that the members of Band-Maid are not SERIOUSLY talented and professional musicians. They are much, much more than just another rock band.

Since you are going down the White Room pigeon hole I strongly recommend Giovanni.

From an interview with Kanami (and I think it was with all BAND-MAID members, actually) I gathered that it was an actual orchestra which performed the intro. Because Kanami and other members were saying that Kanami spent enormous amount of time learning about orchestral work. It sounded to me like she almost attended a course on orchestral composition, maybe even on conducting an orchestra. Why would she need that if she would just compose it on her computer, as she is usually doing in her routine work?
