Walking After U - Jekyll and Hyde

Grab your swinsuits ladies and gents! What you're about to hear might blow your mind!

I didn't think I would hear surfer rock from a Korean rock band. It's much cooler than how I am making it sound, but it's a good time!

I will say there is a crazy amount of distortion on the voice that can get a little overwhelming, but given the topic of the song, I think it's appropriate in this case.

I think you can see why we saved this as the final act of the Badass Unnies show. They are certainly the most experienced, they go the hardest ... unless you count NittPicc throwing her guitar out the window :p . I am sure if you've ever played an instrument we can all say we have felt like doing that at one point. NittPicc can actually say she has ;) .

These girls are all multi-instrumentalists so it can get a little confusing :p ... and South Korea IS a peninsula so what better place to be a surfer :p . Ok, so you tell me … is there any K-Pop left in this band? … because I don’t think so. These girls have been playing hard driving rock for many years … 11 years together to be exact. We could have used a song like Blind or Karma … but I thought something more recent would be a better example. One of my favorite things about this track is the “kiddie piano” effect used by keyboardist Sunny (who has unfortunately recently left the band). The standout feature of the band for me however has always been Haein’s vocals. It frames the “non K-Pop” personality of the band perfectly. There is a 6 year old live cover of Highway to Hell out there and believe me when I tell you she powers through it like just about no other female I have heard. Much like Rolling Quartz this band was formed as a merger of 2 other bands at the time, Rubber Duckie and Swingz. The bands apparently met during production on the Korean TV show 'Top Band - Season 2'. Both Rubber Duckie and Swings were featured in episode "Breaking Down Our Prejudice" of Arirang TV's program "Rock on Korea" in July 2013. Ironically Rubber Duckie had already attained some level of fame as a hard rock band featuring Sunny as a drummer. Swings was led by then vocalist and bassist Haein, along with eventual Walking After U drummer A-zzang. The group eventually worked together on a collaboration during a Korean show called Girls' Rock Festival Season 6 when the members and management came to an agreement and Walking After U was officially formed. The position of bassist has been the one seeing the most activity in this band being filled by 3 different musicians. The spot is currently filled by Hangyeom. This is a hard working band, deep into the club scene, playing mostly local shows. Working as a smallish touring club act is difficult. I don’t know if they have formed an appetite for international success after working with Rolling Quartz and watching their rise … but based upon their activity I think they are content just doing what they have always done.
