2025-06-15 09:35:57 +0000 UTCMonaka is a combination of the first characters in Hiragana of each of the three second year members' family names/surnames, they try it first with all ten group members but it's too unwieldy. The Monaco thing (aka the Principality of Monaco, which is sometimes incorrectly referred to as a kingdom, a city-state surrounded by the south of France on the Mediterranean coast) was just one of the girls thinking out loud because it sounded similar. Luis and myself tried to give you a heads up multiple times in prior episode comments that this is a bonus episode not broadcast on Japanese TV and was originally released as an OVA extra with the physical dvd/bluray boxset. Hence it runs semi-parallel with the last few episodes of the season proper, filling in additional details, adds extra background on the Midori & Hazuki friendship dynamic and showing existing scenes from different perspectives. I'd been looking forward to you seeing this episode, because I thought you'd enjoy Taki sensei's tactics to keep them motivated and the wholesome ways in which Team Monaka go about supporting the main competition portion of the ensemble. As Luis says, this isn't the last you've heard of Team Monoka as a concept.
