Rock Is A Lady's Modesty, S.1, Ep.3 - Lady's Version: "Let's Do It! Let's Do What Feels Good" / "Wanna Start A Band?"

I just remembered the piece being played on the violin is “Meditation” from act 2 of the opera “Thaïs” by Jules Massenet!! 😅

…also…much for not saying bad things about each other...!

I feel like Lilisa's position is very typically, or even stereotypically, Japanese. As you probably know Japanese culture has a strong current of conformity to it, which is not to say they don't value individuality at all, but the balance is different. The image of a noble lady that Lilisa is trying to fill is already well defined. Lilisa doesn't get to decide what being noble means. She doesn't get to decide that noble ladies can play rock guitar. Her feelings don't matter. Also, Japanese are expected to act in a way that brings honor to their family, job, or whatever social group they're in - or at least doesn't bring dishonor to it. They're expected to actively look out for and perhaps sacrifice for other members of their group. And of course, her mother is her social superior, so she has to act in a way that honors and supports her mother even at her own expense. All that said, it's pretty common for Japanese media to celebrate individuality while simultaneously acknowledging the restrictive social expectations they live in. So I wouldn't be at all surprised if the story ends up allowing Lilisa to be both a Noble Maiden and an unapologetically passionate rock guitarist - or if Lilisa ends up embracing the guitar while setting aside her ambition to be the Noble Maiden (perhaps letting an equally-deserving rival take the title?)

I agree 100%.

See this is where it starts to lose me, it feels like the plot is written by non-musicians trying to turn jamming into something purely competitive like a sports anime, but animated in the style of a Shonen Jump style battle show (not exactly my favourite anime sub-genre). The film Whiplash bugged me for similar reasons because it couldn't be depicting anything much further from actual academic jazz drum studies. It's still kinda fun but it's trashy fun, hence the constant yuri bait and subtext in the villainess setting. Also despite the Kanami motion tracking involved there doesn't seem to have been the same level of attention paid to the guitar performance animation as the drums, how they've animated her hands appears to be going more for 'in the right ballpark on the neck is close enough', even in the close ups it's not always super convincing. But that might be a little unfair as other recent music anime have really raised the bar in terms of my expectations on that front and it's only a b-tier show as far as the production funding is concerned.
