Bocchi the Rock, Ep. 6 - Eight Views

I like this new character...that drinking bassist? Seems a little familiar, don't you think?

Going back to the questions posed in the video:

Have you ever been "blackout" drunk before? If so, do you even remember that instance?

...and does Japan actually have juice box sake?!?

What the hell is medical bill thing? We pay 3 EUR for emergency and 2 for night at hospital. But dentist cost can be very high.

Nice flower in hair, are you using it often and hide it by not showing us you from profile? Seems like home comfy hair clip.

Blackout level once in my late teens, too much vodka. Maybe since then i prefere beer and avoid mixing it with hard alcohol. I like Jack Daniels Fire or Honey, but i don´t mix it with beer.

Kikuri's bass is a Yamaha TRB1004J and she's playing it with a pick shaped like a bachi, which is what you'd normally use to play a shamisen (like Beni from Wagakki Band). She also has her own spinoff manga series, which follows her misadventures and the troubles she puts her bandmates through in the process. The drink in a can that Bocchi is drinking in her imaginary flash-forward is Strong Zero, which is 9% ABV in Japan. Just as dangerous as the carton sake.

Lol! I hate to admit that I’ve gotten my friends drunk more times than I have ever been able to get “drunk.” But I always make sure my friends are taken care of. I never leave them alone for their safety. …I prefer to be the “mom” of the group most of the time. Lol.

I did one reaction here for that band. I can’t remember what song I did, but I’ll look up this song and check it out. I know that reaction I did, I LOVED the sound of the band. I need to look up this bassist.

NittPicc

Omg! I’ve done a reaction to that group on here! And their music is crazy! I loved it. That’s so cool. I have to look up that bassist then! …I’ve never had sake. I guess it’s time to try it!

In terms of getting 'blackout' drunk there were a handful of occasions in my 20s; pretty much every time was at a house party, because there was no queuing for drinks involved and spirits were plentiful in supply. Hangovers were slightly more frequent but still not a regular thing as I'd usually be able to pace myself and stay hydrated/sufficiently fed. These days I drink sparingly & more for enjoyment than with the aim for getting drunk (on nights out I'm usually the designated driver by choice), but back then there was a bit more of a group pressure to keep up with others and alcohol did act as a social lubricant of sorts, making it easier to hold conversations & interact.

This is super cool! I love this anime with its multiple use of mediums. It’s not only a good show, but it is unique!

NittPicc

Lol! Thanks! I’m having a good time watching it and it’s nice to watch it with you all!

I love this anime and your reactions to it. While it's not alcohol (I don't drink), it's still addictive.

Glad you like the episode, about the backgrounds looking real, is not your imagination, the majority of the backgrounds art for this anime are actually real photos with some filters apply it to them.

The drunken bassist Kikuri Hiroi (& her band Sick Hack) has nothing to do with Misa, she's actually loosely based on Margarette Hiroi, the androgynous bassist/vocalist of the trio 88Kasyo Junrei (which translates to "Pilgrimage to eighty-eight places" a reference to the Buddhist Shikoku pilgrimage). Really cheap sake in Japan actually does come in cartons, it's kinda similar to box wine in that regard. Kikuri's preferred brand is Onikoroshi which according to a quick search you can get in the US for $3.50-$4.00 per 180ml carton and that's with the import price mark-up as well.

Love this episode and your reaction. Now that you've met Kikuri Hiroi aka the drunken senpai, you should check out who she is based on, Margaret Hiroi of 88kasyo Junrei. The hard drinking, hard living singer and bassist known for her often drunk antics on stage. Butsumetsu Torishuna is a song I think you'd really dig.

Eloy Martinez

Drunken sensei in the stage. The best and worst role model Bocchi could get...HE HE. I only get drunk once to the level of missing a couple of hours from my memory and wake up not knowing what happened. I was a teen in that time and was the first time I taste rum. My friends took me back home.
