Sound! Euphonium, S.1, Ep. 1 - Welcome to High School

I have been playing flute for a long time. When I decided to take my education further my junior year of high school, I realized I loved sharing my love and passion for music with my peers.

Cut to today, I get a lot fo joy form just watching my students faces light up the first time they can make a sound on their headjoint, or when my older students learn an all new technique that they thought they would never master.

This is what makes me happy.

What makes you happy?

A little late but enjoyed the first episode. I played baritone from 4th grade through high school, but where I lived we didn't have band competitions (it was in the 50's/60's) and it was a small town in rural Michigan. I've noticed that in Japan the bands seem to be mostly girls and the boys are mostly in the sports clubs. I've watched the world famous high school matching band, Kyoto's Tachibana band, which is 95% girls, simply amazing.

Yes you're right in that Yamaha endorses the show, so you'll see plenty of instances of their brand instruments and equipment in use. All the instruments are drawn rather than just CG models, which seems to lend a more credible feel to the performance elements. Also you might've missed with the mouthpiece tutorial that Kumiko gives Hazuki, but the flashback part of the sequence was lil' Kumiko being shown by her older sister who you met briefly.

I absolutely love Sound Euphonium, I've held off on watching season 3 so far though because there's two movies set between season 2&3, titled 'Liz & the Blue Bird' and 'Our Promise: A Brand New Day' and skipping them would mean a time skip that'd mess with the continuity for me. Neither are currently available on Crunchyroll, but I've recently picked up the former on Bluray. There's also two other movies, 'Welcome to the Kitauji High School Concert Band' and 'May the Melody Reach You!' but they mostly act as recaps of seasons 1&2 so really aren't essential unless you're a total completionist. Kyoto Animation that did this are also probably my favourite anime studio by far, having also produced 'Violet Evergarden', 'Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions' and 'Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid' amongst many great shows.

This show is one my favorites of all times. The writing is a masterpiece and the music is treated with such care. Kyoto Animation is the studio that animated this show and the quality of it is from other world. It's beautiful. I love the intro song called "Dream solister" . I have it in my phone and listen to it regulary. Here is a full version of the intro. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PfsI_gNNi6s&list=PLDdJ__IfZkbgMrNFfdHZ9BLbB3Rc6QYx5&index=47&ab_channel=%E5%B0%8F%E6%98%A5 Sound Euphonium! has 3 season but also has 4 movies inbetween that linked the seasons together. There's also specials, but you can skip them because are not important. Just fun things. But "Liz and the Blue bird", the third movie, is a masterpiece. And the next piece begins.
