Kessoku Band (Voice Actors!) - Flashbacker

This. Is. INSPIRING!

I cannot believe that these voice actors (that I know no information about their musical ablities if they have any) learned how to play the instruments that their characters play in the show. It's just soooooo amazing and CUTE that they are absolutely killing it on stage.

The fact that their performance is perfectly rehearsed and well planned is so cute to see. They have this slight feeling of "newness" but it's just so perfect. I wouldn't want it any other way.

As others have kinda half covered, of the four members Yoppi (Aoyama Hoshino) has the most experience performing with their respective instrument, having learnt to play a couple of songs as Bocchi for the two seasons of 'Road to Guitar Hero' and then also guested with the touring Kessoku Band on occasion since for those tracks. Prior to getting the role however she was barely able to strum a few chords (not that it stopped her from including an attempt at playing a borrowed guitar at the end of her initial audition tape). Since 2022 she has also released material as a solo singer. Because of the requirements involved Ikumi Hasegawa had to audition for the role of Kita both as an actress & singer, since the show has come out she's toured as part of the 'real' Kessoku Band and played at festivals with them also. This was the first time she's performed live with a guitar though. Neither Sayumi Suzushiro (Nijika) or Saku Mizuno (Ryo) had any real prior experience on drums & bass, Saku had been posting singing videos to YT since 2018. Most professional seiyus get a degree of singing training though and that usually includes basic music theory (students in Japan also typically have the opportunity to learn keyboards from roughly middle school age, so that's not uncommon). From the behind the scenes footage it seems that they were being coached & practicing in secret for approximately a year before this fan event, which was also when the second season got officially announced. The Flashbacker performance was the surprise encore; previously at events they'd done stuff where they all sang but only Yoppi had a guitar and the others sang & did karaoke style tambourine accompaniment, so the crowd reaction when Sayumi & Saku went over to the drums and bass respectively was one of genuine shock.

When Bocchi the Rock was airing, They released on youtube each week a short episodes of Bocchi's VA learning to play guitar with a guitar teacher and you can see her going from learning how to hold the guitar to learning chords and playing some lead lines, throughout the videos she was learning the Seishun Complex song (the anime opening song) which is not easy to play on lead guitar but the goal was to play it with a band by the end, and then they have other videos of her practicing to play live. I assume the other VAs also had some practice to a lesser extend too during the period leading to this performance, but although this arrangement is the simplest out of Bocchi The Rock's songs I think it is pretty impressive what they achieved. Here is the full playlist of her "learning guitar" videos, it's only in japanese unfortunetly but you can understand vaguely from what is happening: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLUH30mfo5wJwt5-TNsL7Ns7WHjzKKwFI2

PURE CINEMA!!!!!! Go Yoppi go!!!!! The singer is Ikumi Hasegawa, obviously the voice actress of Kita. You saw her in the studio video of "Sheisun Complex", the song of the opening. Yoppi, aka Aoyama Hoshino, aka Bocchi, she learn to play guitar after the recording of the show. Theres a documental named "Road to Guitar Hero" about that. Don't know about the other two if they have some music training but I don't think Sayumi Suzushiro, voice actress of Nijika, has experience in drums.
