BAND-MAID - YURAGU

There is just something about this album that I absolutely enjoy. I am not knocking the older albums at all, but this album feels like the true beginnings of the BAND-MAID we know today.

Mark Knopfler has talked about his experience in finding his own voice on the guitar.

Pastel Easter Egg Colored Nail?

Great suggestion! Since the videographer is right in front of her, this one really shows what MISA is doing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C_4draQ3u4Q

The sporty getaway car in Kate isn't blue like in your imagined scenario, but it IS purple, your favourite colour! Thank you for this reaction - I know I don't pay enough attention to the older Band-Maid albums, but this is a great song - the build-ups from both the dual (dueling?) vocals and Kanami's guitar are wonderful.

This whole album is so fun to listen to! The Maids running out of the bank, getting ready to run hard and fast, yep, this could be get away music!

Hadn't thought of it, but I could totally see them in this!

The album is excellent, compact, and very well written by excellent studio musicians. The girls already had some room for arrangements; in fact, they were on the verge of casting off, ready to find their own sound. Brand New Maid's compositions have a strong sense of classic hard rock with that typical J-Rock taste for fusing and coloring music with diverse genres. Japanese musicians, in general, are unbeatable in that respect. This 2016 interview in Natalie Magazine puts into perspective what they themselves thought of the album at the time. https://www.reddit.com/r/BandMaid/comments/rru96o/interview_with_bandmaid_on_natalie_brand_new_maid/

Hi NittPicc. I remember in the 90ties reading an interview to Alanis Morisette talking about her finding her 'own voice': this concept stuck in my brain and ever since i always keep that in mind when i listen to musicians (being singers or instrumental players), Some artist have it from the start (take for example, Sheena Ringo which was pretty defined from the start, vocally) . Some need time to find their signature 'voice' (I think this is specially true for instrumantal players). I think, like all maidiac, that Kanami found pretty quickly her own voice: but generally i can hear each member 'voice' in band maid songs: sometimes when i listen to their songs i'm like 'oh..this is Kanami sayng this, and here Misa replying..and here Akane '. Songs end up like a chat of friend each expressing their colors. It's a little childish thought, but you can get what i'm saying i think...

Coming soon on NittPicc Patreon reactions - The Great Bank Heist of 2025! Band Maid has a lot of songs that would make for great "getaway" music and this is certainly one of them. I too, love this album.

There are some fan cams of the band playing Yuragu in Paris (2016). The audio is not very good, but you can see Miku, Kanami and Akane singing backup vocals.

Mincho is a master of taking 8 beats and bifurcating them into unexpected pattern. That pre/post chorus is 3-3-2. She does that a lot

Yuragu reminds me of ZZTop

On this album, at least formally credited, only has 3 songs with lyrics by The Maids (this and Alone S&N, Freedom Miku), and one with music by Band-Naid (Alone). The next album, Just Bring It, is majority Maids. Then, WD is all Maids (with a tiny bit of help)

This was the first song with lyrics by Pigeon and Sai-chan, Po! 🕊️
