BAND-MAID - FREEDOM (Revisited)

Once again I step into the scores of BRAND NEW MAID and man...I forgot about the live version of FREEDOM.

It was nice hearing the studio version since I think I bypassed listening to it in general. I could hear a lot fo what is going on in the score, but the live version really gave me a look into how they added transitions for Akane to do her happy gorilla drumming. Very very cool thing to notice here!

I always thought that faint sound we hear is an organ sound. It could be listed as keyboard.

The song with which they always let loose

For forgetting THAT drum solo, you must be tarred and Pigeon-feathered Po! LOL!

This is my all-time favorite song and I never get tired of it, live or studio. 2 other great versions can be found on BM Prime at the 2018 Zepp Tokyo Okyu-ji - great intro too. The 2nd is from the Yokohama Arena DVD which also has a killer intro. After I got my 2nd Covid shot, I popped this song into my CD player turned up to 11 and sped away from the vaccination center, celebrating my "Freedom" from the fear of Covid. for the record, I've had 4 or 5 booster shots now too, LOL, and I have yet to get Covid.

https://youtu.be/d8HSRsxkD8E?si=FymEr-dlPgPUYhOl This one from Boston is really good. Kanami goes out to the crowd and kisses a little boy, MISA in your face for the whole MISA verse (2nd), slightly different 🦍 solo.

I did hear what you described as the synth. It sounded to me like Kanami recorded some short guitar licks and added them just under the surface.

I highly suggest that you watch a fancam or two of Freedom from the US tours in 22 or 23. Their is virtually no production, so it is really raw, and you get an even better Sense of what the song really was when they were in studio recording it.

One of my dreams is to see/hear this live and Miku play the harmony at the end of the solo with Kanami. πŸ•ŠοΈπŸ₯Ή

This song is a great example of the maturity of Saiki's voice. They are both great, but they are so different. The first gives an impression of a young woman stating her case, the second sounds more like a mature woman reiterating her position and celebrating with an agreeing and celebratory audience. The studio is also very nasally, like she had a cold at the time, but it is still pleasant, while the live is full power and healthy.

🦍 shame on your house! 🀣 J/K. Nice pickup on the non-harmony on the end of Kanami's solo. I always want reactors to go back and listen to the studio version, but they never do!

Wasn't written by Kanami, so that's why. 17:25. The lyrics are Pigeon (first sole Miku lyrics), but the music is someone else. This was just before Alone on the album.

Another fun tidbit about this song is this is, if memory serves, the first song Miku wrote lyrics for! Even Kanami didn't write the music, her enthusiasm in the solo is unmistakable! In the live when Kanami sits down and watched Miku sing, it's because Miku forgot the lyrics in a previous performance and Mincho is having a fun go at her in watching her to make sure Miku didn't flub the lyrics this time. It's become kind of a ritual with the band now, with MISA and Saiki joining the gathering to watch Miku, all in fun!

The live is so much more interesting, but only because of the addition of Akane's drum solo. The song in general is fantastic, but the added spice of Akane in the live is the cherry on top!
