I am honestly curious if she would ever do a Selena cover of some kind. I feel like she is the only person who could do her justice.

When you made the Mariah reference when she did that high run, you may have seen a lady in the audience wiping away tears, well that is Sohyangs mother-in-law,and for anyone maybe doubting that fact, if you saw Sohyangs husband, any doubt would be removed as they are the spitting image of each other!! You were correct in that she didn’t win this particular episode but in these shows, although the winner does win a trophy, it’s not a dog eat dog competition as we know it in the west in so much that all the competitors are already known & the voting is an audience vote & quite often the best singer doesn’t come first, otherwise Sohyang would win everything surely, but it may come down to the artist been very popular at that time or maybe the song is a particular fav but you have to remember that at this time, Sohyangs wasn’t a big star in her own country, she was still only well known in gospel circles, which is an extremely niche market in Korea as you can imagine. It’s only in the last 7-8 years max that the world has started to become aware of her thru YouTube, that she has become more well known in her own country, and now they are extremely proud because they have this world class diva, who apart from having the vocals of a diva, is so un-diva like!!! She’s still not mainstream though, she never will be, she will never resort to singing popular music to top the charts & rake the money in, that is not who she is. If you want to see one of this series that she did win then check out her performance of ‘lean on me’ when Michael Bolton ( the theme of the show was MB, he’s huge in Asia) was in the audience & she literally rendered him ‘speechless’. When they went to him for his comments he could not speak. When he gathered himself, he just said ‘that was SPECTACULAR!!!!’ & he went on to say that she,in this performance had taken on the role of ‘virtuoso’. If you want to see her go ‘full on’ gospel, check out her performance of the ‘other’ Lean on me that she performed with Kirk Franklin, even his backing singers were applauding & hugging her😂😂. Could I make a suggestion by requesting that now you’ve got an idea of what Sohyang is about you check out her performance of ‘Bridge over troubled water’,?again from the ‘immortal songs ‘ series on KBS because that seems to be many people’s first experience of this, as you yourself have noted,Angel ( myself included). I love this song but it’s not really known for its ‘dynamics’, it’s a bit ploddy, but I’m sure you are starting to understand, especially after your ‘you raise me up’ experience that when Sohyang is performing, expect the unexpected, is all I will say 😂😂. Finally I would just like to assure you that although you are at the beginning of your Sohyang journey, and by the look on your face, still in shock, that feeling of shock, excitement, surprise, the feels, the admiration never goes away, it always feels like you are watching her for the first time, I believe it is impossible to have ‘too much’ Sohyang because everything she does is of the same mind-blowing standard & I think the only thing that makes one performance better than the other is personal taste rather than the quality of performance. Keep up the good work & maybe you’d like to join the growing numbers suggesting a Dimash/Sohyang collab ( I myself am not sure the world is ready!!!😂😂)

She also sang with a very good looking guy, a singer who was causing quite a stir amongst the Spanish girls. If you want to go ‘full-on’ gospel with Sohyang you should check out her performing with Kirk Franklin🤯🤯. This is very much her interpretation of the original, which obviously had the same lyrics but did NOT sound anything like this. I hope Sohyang makes you feel like she’s your friend, it’s a very personal experience I think. She is now active online so you should try & make contact with her with your suggestion. Until now she has rarely been seen with regards to interviews etc but earlier this year, Tara of Tara Simply n Studios managed to achieve what we all thought was impossible, an interview in English & tbh, she is so humble & has an ease about how she conducts herself that it’s like talking to your best friend. The fact that she such a lovely person that hasn’t been tainted by the shannanigans that goes in the music industry is itself a wonderful thing but even more amazingly when you also take in to account all the probs she’s had since her early 20’s with poor health. I don’t know where you sourced this video but every time I have seen the performance the video has continued to inc the audience response that you wanted. For Sohyang performances that aren’t in English , I find that watching on ‘vimeo’ provides the most accurate subtitles. You have to react to ‘Arirang Alone’ next, yet another completely different experience for your ears. I also hope we don’t have to wait too long til you have a peep at a more ‘classical’ sohyang when she decides to tackle Mozart, with ‘Lacrimosa’, which was the last thing he ever wrote. It is performed in a cathedral & both Sohyang ( & Henry) we’re fascinated with the acoustics, so much so that when the ensemble were having a guided tour, when they reached the ‘cloisters’, Sohyang just started singing & doing vocalisations to see how it bounced off the ornate ceiling, it was amazing

SoHyang has many performances on YouTube and most have eng subs. Another Korean to check out is Hynn she also has a powerful voice. Not quite as famous as SoHyang and Ailee and some of the other big names in Korea. Some of Hynn songs are Let Me Out, The Lonely Bloom Stands Alone, Bad Love, The Story Of Us, When I Tell You Goodbye, Fighter (which is a OST for a Kdrama called The Fiery Priest), Orpheus with Korean rapper Jo Gwangil. Hope you check her out Nittpick.
