I was hoping that others ... maybe more knowledgeable than me would chime in ... but alas I will do my best to answer your questions about Billy and his bass. First know that Billy sets up all of his own basses. He first did it out of necessity as there were no real guitar techs as it were, when he started. He stated that even if you are to send out your bass nowadays there are so many variations he would likely not be happy with anyone's set up now but his own. He begins with profiling the neck and the frets. Watching him play you can imagine his action must be really low to tap so quickly. He ends by setting up the pickups and the bridge height to his liking. Second, to your astute observation, yes, he does use grip tape on the back of his bass ... but mostly ... Billy has a funny story about how this came to be. He builds his own straps ... to be thick in areas, thin in others, some parts must be stiff, and others soft. Special gromets, specific screws. He has an entire video on the subject. It really is a big part of the magic in terms of how he is able to pull off many of his tricks, if you will.

Sheehan is still playing and working with young artists. During the pandemic he covered on of his songs, "Take Cover" with a young Japanese prodigy drummer Yoyoka when she was 11. Worth a look as Yoyoka, who's now 15 and living in LA to gain experience that's not available in Japan, has been playing around venues like the "Whiskey a go go" in Hollywood with other local musicians.
