Sound! Euphonium, S.2, Ep.11 - First love Trumpet

Oh Reina...

I'm sure we've all had a crush on a teacher before, but it can only be just that though:
A CRUSH

I won't lie. The "Reina loves Taki-sensei" is a little much for me to handle, but I am trying to see it from a teenage perspective. I'm REALLY trying. Hah!

Anyway, it may not be my favorite episode in the series, but it still is quite lovely.

I'm somewhat with you on feeling the 'ick' with elements of this plot line as it were, but maybe not to the same visceral degree as yourself, mainly because it is shown as so one sided in that regard. I did appreciate you then understanding the show's angle a little better post-rant, when the flashback sequence then re-framed the situation from a more neutral perspective. Part of the flashback sequence (at the start with the piano) I think was meant to show how singular Reina's focus on goals can be, her strong will means she gets tunnel vision and struggles to comprehend why others wouldn't necessarily have the same level of dedication. As a result, what helps her in terms of discipline with her own trumpet playing is also a double-edged sword in other situations. When she first briefly meets Taki-sensei in the show's flashback, she's in elementary school and he's most likely in mid-high school (he switched from horn to trombone in middle school). Their dads worked together, so they would've then likely mixed at social gatherings and I believe Reina is an only child; so it wouldn't surprise me if Taki is her literal first crush from before she even really understood what that that meant. He was a tall older boy, familiar but not related to her, who was friendly and obviously into music (which she was already obsessed with). So it's mostly her initially idolising/admiring him, which has turned into more unrequited romantic feelings when she hit the teenage stage of all those hormones in turn messing with the emotions. For Taki's part he just encouraged her trumpet playing and helped inspire her progress, which in turn made his opinions important to her and by extension him as well. The little speech she gives Kumiko at the end, about wishing she'd been born earlier and could grow up faster, I think is her indirectly acknowledging the reality of her crush. The awkwardness/falling out with Kumiko was mostly about the trust aspect. She's the only one who knows about Reina's crush and that she kept this information about Taki's late wife from her, even with the best of intentions, made her feel slightly betrayed. For Kumiko's part I don't think her rooting for Reina is quite so literal, more that it's the path of least resistance, as trying to discourage her would just backfire and she's therefore reaffirming her overall support of her friend going forward.

In the upper secondary school i had a techer who made me change my attitude to the subject she was in charge of (fundamentally literature and grammar: i was more versed in technical and scientific matters, i was 14-15). I've always been grateffull to her because she was able to broaden my perception of things. Also she had beatifull legs and a nice figure (my class also was 80% males, so you can figure out the context here) , but that's a bonus..... Not really a crush, but i remember her with gratitude and respect. In my opinion a teenager could feel someway toward an adult, but the adult should act as such (meaning having responsability) and be able to draw the line not to cross over.
