K-On!, S.1, Ep.8 - Freshman Reception!

Ui is joining Yui at school which is absolutely adorable. It's hard to see her as the younger sister!

Since it's a new year, the freshman are looking to join clubs to participate in. Can the K-On club gain any new members with Ui's help?

I wasn't a part of any clubs in school, sixth form or university; they're far less of a thing in the UK pre-university and because I was then studying music including performance modules, that took up far more of my free time for the two years I was there. I did play on the rugby team at high school and did choir & chamber choir at sixth form, but I wouldn't really consider them as clubs. You also seemed to articulate one of the reasons I enjoy a lot of low drama slice-of-life anime, as long as the production quality and writing is decent it usually makes for a good palette cleanser/contrast with more intense and/or dramatic shows. One from more recent years that has similar 'cute girls do cute things' vibes to K-On is 'Laid-Back Camp', where the premise is literally camping with some edutainment elements on the side and the highest drama you get is the girls figuring out how to earn funds to buy more camping gear. From this season a show that's really pleasantly surprised me is 'Ruri Rocks: An Introduction to Mineralogy' by Studio Bind (who were originally formed to animate 'Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation' aka. the OG modern Isekai manga). At times there's a bit of a questionable male gaze fanservice in the camera work, mostly in the first episode and thankfully largely focused only on the adult members of the cast. But that element becomes much more subdued as it continues, it's gorgeously animated, the characters are all quite engaging & well rounded personalities and the show also manages to teach you a surprising amount about geology and minerals along the way.
